Fabio Quartararo grabs pole at Grand Prix Netherlands qualifying as Marc Marquez drops to second row after Friday crashes

Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo was the fastest rider in the Grand Prix Netherlands qualifying session on Saturday, with the Frenchman now one of the favourites for the Sprint and full-length races, shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+ this weekend. Current championship leader Marc Marquez was in fourth spot, struggling after two crashes on Friday.

Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez could only finish fourth in qualifying at Grand Prix Netherlands, with Fabio Quartararo top.
The Monster Energy Yamaha rider has shown glimmers of form this season and has given himself a great chance of success in both the Sprint race and the full-length competition on Saturday and Sunday respectively, live on TNT Sports and discovery+
While Quartararo’s ability and track record make his pole not too much of a shock, it was a morning full of surprises.
In second spot is Marquez’s team-mate, Fabio Bagnaia, who yesterday was tipped to race aggressively and challenge, as he looks to turn around a poor first half of the season, and perhaps launch a late title challenge.
Third on the grid is Marquez's brother, BK8 Gresini rider Alex Marquez, who is second in the chase for this year’s world title.
However, the elder Marquez was struggling for rhythm, with some suggestions that he was struggling with lingering pain from Friday’s crashes.

Marquez had two heavy falls on Friday and there was speculation that he might not be able to continue after problems with his arm on the first spill, but while he was able to get on his bike for qualifying, he was not able to match his normal pace.
This is just the second time that the Spaniard has not finished on the front row in qualifying, and the last time it happened was the only time he failed to win a Sprint this season.
