BK8 Gresini blow as Fermin Aldeguer ruled out of Grand Prix Netherlands with injury after crash, Alex Marquez a doubt

BK8 Gresini face another tough weekend due to fitness concerns for both of their riders. Alex Marquez suffered a crash which could prevent him from competing for the rest of Grand Prix Netherlands, while Fermin Aldeguer is out due to a fractured vertebrae.

Aldeguer suffered a heavy crash, and looked to have hurt himself, when he went off in Turn 12 as he looked to set a good time for Saturday’s qualifying, shown live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
The Spaniard was taken to hospital for further checks, where it was confirmed that he had suffered a T7 vertebrae fracture, ruling him out of action for the foreseeable future.
The team announced on social media: "Following a medical review, Fermin Aldeguer has been declared unfit by the director of the medical centre, Angel Charte.
"He has suffered a fracture to the T7 vertebrae, which will be assessed over the next few days."
The injury is a further blow for Aldeguer’s 2026 campaign after he sat out winter testing and the first round of the season as a result of a broken femur.
On Saturday, the team confirmed to TNT Sports that Aldeguer would travel to Madrid for further tests.

Despite those problems, Aldeguer is ninth in the world championship standings.
BK8 Gresini has suffered a difficult season with injuries for both riders, with Marquez also breaking a vertebra and a collarbone at Grand Prix Catalunya last month, requiring surgery.
He collided with Pedro Acosta’s KTM in one of the worst crashes in recent MotoGP history.
Acosta’s KTM suddenly lost pace in the race. There were further concerns raised on Saturday morning in Assen when another KTM bike also suddenly lost power, with suggestions from TNT Sports pundits Neil Hodgson and Sylvain Guintoli that officials may intervene to make sure the problem does not occur another time.
The Spaniard returned to action at Grand Prix Czechia last weekend, though he decided to sit out the Sprint race and the full-length event as he looked to regain full fitness.
Marquez also suffered a serious crash in Friday’s practice, finishing in the top 10 to reach Q2 for Saturday’s qualifying session.
The rider had to be given assistance by the marshals due to the discomfort he was experiencing, and there were concerns that, given his recent injuries, he would not be able to take part in the rest of the weekend’s action.
However, he could yet compete in the rest of the competition on Saturday and Sunday.

Marquez said after practice: "Apart from the crash, it was a positive day.
"I was trying to push, and I made a mistake with the bike that threw me into the air.
"Luckily, I’m fine, just a few scratches, but everything is okay. The collarbone is fine, now we’ll see how I feel tomorrow morning."
