Jorge Martin takes pole at Grand Prix Netherlands qualifying, Marc Marquez seventh fastest

Aprilia scored a lockout in qualifying at Grand Prix Netherlands on Saturday morning. Jorge Martin, targeting another MotoGP world title, was fastest as he recorded his first pole position in 616 days.

The former world champion suffered a crash on Friday, but was the fastest rider in the session on Saturday morning in Assen.
Martin is just eight points behind his Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi in the world championship standings, and could leapfrog him to top the table if results go his way over the weekend.
The Aprilia manufacturer secured a front-row lockout, as Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura was second-fastest overall. After second place at Grand Prix Brno last weekend, he will hope to continue his impressive season-season form.
Bezzecchi took the other Aprilia factory bike to third on the grid in the session ahead of Saturday’s Sprint race and Sunday’s full-length event, both shown live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
The second row features two Ducati riders, but fourth spot is another Aprilia, with Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez up next on the starting grid.
Another former world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, took fifth spot for the Ducati factory team. The Italian has the most points from the last five races of any rider as he looks to get back to his best in his last season with the team.

Next up is the satellite team for Ducati, VR46 Pertamina, with Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is the top-placed rider for the manufacturer in the championship so far. He trails Bezzecchi by 23 points.
In seventh is the other Ducati factory rider, current world champion Marc Marquez, who believes he will not be at his full fitness until the upcoming break following the race this weekend.
The Spaniard had surgery last month to correct a broken screw in one of his shoulders, which had been impinging his radial nerve.
KTM's Pedro Acosta starts alongside his future team-mate Marquez, after it was revealed he would replace Bagnaia next season.
But there were worrying signs that led Neil Hodgson to suggest the bike should not be allowed to start because of the potential danger it posed to Acosta and the rest of the riders, who might have to take evasive action on a more congested track during the races to come.

Twice on Saturday morning, the bike appeared to lose power, recalling the dreadful crash at Grand Prix Catalunya which caused broken vertebrae and collarbone for Alex Marquez.
The Spaniard is back in action for BK8 Gresini this weekend, but after another heavy crash on Friday, he elected not to take part in Q2, and will start both races in 12th place, should he decide to take part.
Ninth place was taken by Fabio Quartararo for Yamaha after he qualified from Q1 in the first session, and Honda’s Joan Mir was 10th on the grid.
