Jorge Martin fractured his hand and foot during testing in Malaysia on Wednesday, with the 2025 MotoGP season just over three weeks away. The 27-year-old Spaniard, who claimed his first world title last year, is now with Aprilia having made the switch from Pramac Racing in the off-season. Martin will have surgery following the crash, which inevitably casts doubt on his chances for a title defence.

MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin will have surgery on his hand and foot following a crash during pre-season testing in Malaysia.
Martin, who is now riding for Aprilia after making the switch from Pramac Racing following his successful 2024 campaign, lost control of his bike on turn two as a highside launched him into the air before he landed face-first on the tarmac, shattering his helmet.
The 27-year-old Spaniard was taken to the medical centre by ambulance as the session was halted. He was then moved to a nearby hospital for further checks, where it was ascertained that he had suffered fractures to his hand and foot.
The news inevitably casts doubt on Martin's title defence going into the 2025 season, with the opening race in Thailand just over three weeks away.
"Jorge MartĂn has been diagnosed with a right-hand fracture and fractures in his left foot," MotoGP said in a statement.
"He has undergone a CT scan and MRI, both of which were negative for any injuries. He will stay in hospital overnight and tomorrow he will fly back to Europe to undergo surgery on both his right hand and left foot."

Testing in Malaysia will continue until Friday, but news of Martin's crash has overshadowed proceedings.
Earlier, Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez was also forced to withdraw from testing after likewise suffering a hand and foot fracture. Trackhouse also make use Aprilia bikes.

Martin clinched his first world title last year at the season-ending race in Barcelona, on a day full of emotion for him.
"I am completely shocked," Martin said as he celebrated a famous success.
"This is for my family, for the people who are supporting me, this is for them.
"I started crying at the end. It was a really emotional race. It's been a long journey with a lot of crashes and big injuries but finally we are here. I hope we can keep improving and enjoy the moment."
