Marc Marquez signs contract extension to stay with Ducati Lenovo until the end of the 2028 MotoGP season and says he is 'truly happy'

Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him with Ducati Lenovo until the end of the 2028 championship season, it has been confirmed by the Italian team.

Marquez won the world championship last season in his debut campaign with the team, six years after his last world title in a dramatic comeback story.
The Spaniard's contract had been set to expire at the end of the 2026 season, but his extension will tie him down with Ducati through the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP campaigns.
Seven-time champion Marquez, who is back in this season's title race after a win in Brno on Sunday, said he was "truly happy" to stay with Ducati and to "continue being part of this family".
"I'm red. When I decided to join Ducati, I was convinced it was the most competitive project," the 33-year-old said in the statement.
"They believed in me, and we built a relationship based on trust and hard work.
"With this renewal, they have once again reaffirmed this commitment, respecting my times and giving me the peace of mind I needed to make the right decision. In our first year together, we fought for the title and won it: a priceless result that confirms that the path we had chosen was the right one.
"I continue to compete, because I love this sport and I want to achieve even more ambitious goals. I'm convinced this is the right place to do it. As long as I'm here, I'll give my all to paint the future red."

Marquez is widely considered one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time, and has seven MotoGP world championships to his name - one with Ducati and six with Honda.
Last season, he put in arguably one of his most dominant performances to claim the world title, claiming 14 wins in the Sprint and 11 Grand Prix to wrap up his victory with five races to go and eventually secure the all-time points record for a rider in a single season (545 points).
His 2025 campaign ended prematurely in October after a collision with Marco Bezzecchi resulted in a shoulder injury which required surgery.
He had a difficult start to the 2026 season and underwent shoulder and foot surgery after Grand Prix France.
But on Sunday, Marquez took a big step to surge back into this season's championship battle with victory at Grand Prix Czechia in Brno.
Marquez battled his way to the front to claim back-to-back Grand Prix wins following his victory the weekend before in Hungary - and move to within 40 points of championship leader Bezzecchi (Aprilia).
"Trust, the relationship between Ducati and Marc starts here," Luigi Dall'Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, said. "He was looking for us first, he chose us then, and today we are happy to say that we are planning a future - more red than rosy - together.
