BATH TAKE STOOP BY STORM WITH SEVEN-TRY MASTERCLASS

Bath Rugby began their PREM title defence in style with a commanding 31-47 victory over Harlequins at The Stoop.

The opening 40 minutes were slightly stop-start with both sides probing each other’s defence.

Harlequins took an early lead thanks to flanker Will Evans, who powered over for a hat-trick of tries in the first half, showcasing his strength and speed across the pitch. Tyrone Green and Alex Dombrandt also crossed for the hosts. But Bath remained in touch thanks to their own attacking flair, with tries from Tom Dunn and Vilikesa Sela.

Bath’s response to falling behind was methodical. The forwards repeatedly pounded the gain line, drawing in the Quins defence and creating space for the backs. Replacement Wales international tight head Archie Griffin added his first PREM try, while Sam Underhill, coming off the bench, also crossed to underline Bath’s relentless forward power.

Henry Arundell was a standout performer on the wing, combining pace and skill. From collecting simple kicks to accelerating at full speed, Arundell created multiple opportunities and finished one try himself, demonstrating why he is such an exciting talent.

Max Ojomoh, stepping in at 10, had a mature performance, linking play effectively and helping Bath maintain momentum.

Harlequins struggled to cope with Bath’s physicality and quick ball movement in the second half. Multiple pick-and-go drives and intelligent recycling of the ball from rucks allowed Bath to dominate possession and territory.

By the final whistle, Bath had registered their highest-ever points tally at The Stoop in a league game, with the pack and backs working in perfect harmony to grind down the home side’s defence. Tom de Glanville and Ben Spencer added key conversions, ensuring the scoreboard reflected the dominance on the pitch.

This opening round victory sets the tone for Bath’s PREM campaign, showcasing their ability to blend experience and relentless physicality.

Meanwhile, Harlequins will need to regroup quickly after a tough start, despite the brilliant individual efforts from Evans, Green and Dombrandt.

"We conceded a lot of points. Probably not how we want to start the season, but it's pretty awesome playing with a team like that. And there's a few players ready to come back as well, so I'm looking forward to that as well.

"I am looking to build a relationship with Finn [Russell]. He's only just come back in, so we are trying to build that relationship in training. But most of the lads, I mean, the forwards do so much work for us. I mean, anyone's kind of ready to score.

"It was great fun. We conceded a lot of points, but it’s awesome playing for a team like this. I’ve definitely missed the Premiership, Bath is my home, and it was really special to come back here."

PLAYER OF THE MATCH, BEN SPENCER: 'THERE WAS A REAL CHANGE IN MENTALITY'

"It was a bit stop-start in the first half, but we had a good chat at half-time about improving our attitude and I think we delivered on that.

"The guys who came on were brilliant and I just helped shepherd them around the pitch. Henry on the wing did really well on his debut and Max Ojomoh, stepping in at 10 had a very mature performance and got the boys moving down the field.

"There was a real change in mentality at half-time - a bit more energy and ‘get-up-and-go’ about us and we managed to score some good tries."
