Welsh Open 2025: Jimmy White and Reanne Evans make winning start in qualifiers

Jimmy White made a winning start to his Welsh Open qualifying campaign in Barnsley with a 4-0 win over Joshua Thomond while White's fellow Eurosport pundit Reanne Evans also advanced with a 4-1 victory over Julien Leclercq. White will meet Scott Donaldson on Thursday afternoon for a place in the final stages of the Home Nations Series event in Llandudno, while Evans takes on Joe O'Connor.

Jimmy 'Whirlwind' White enjoyed a 4-0 win over Joshua Thomond on Tuesday night in his opening qualifying match for next week's Welsh Open.

The six-time world finalist set up a meeting with Scott Donaldson in Barnsley on Thursday afternoon as he bids to book a spot at the final Home Nations Series event of the season in Llandudno.

White first competed at the Welsh Open in 1993 when he lost 5-2 to James Wattana in the quarter-finals in Newport.

There was also a win for 12-time women's world champion Reanne Evans, who completed a 4-1 win over Julien Leclercq to set up a meeting with former Scottish Open finalist Joe O'Connor on Thursday afternoon.

Former Shoot Out winner Michael Holt eased to a 4-0 win over Hatem Yassen that saw him top score with a break of 111.

He next faces Daniel Wells for a spot at the finals venue.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, 18-year-old Liam Davies produced knocks of 93, 134 and 51 in a 4-1 win over Antoni Kowalski with Oliver Lines making 136 in a 4-0 whitewash of Ahmed Elsayed.

Lines meets 2006 world champion Graeme Dott on Thursday morning.
