Ding through while debutant Moody leads Wilson
Ding Junhui, resuming this morning with a 7-2 lead over Dave Gilbert, eased into round two, converting his advantage into a 10-5 win. He was made to fight for it as his level – outstanding in the first session – dropped a little as Gilbert's rose, but the Angry Farmer couldn't pot well enough for long enough to apply serious pressure, not words likely to be written about Zhao Xintong, the defending champion whom Ding faces next.
Meantime, 19-year-old Stan Moody was terrific on debut, recording two centuries and two other big breaks in the process of taking a 6-3 lead over Kyren Wilson, the stand-out match of the round delivering on its promise. There are few who compete harder than the 2024 Crucible winner, so this match is far from a foregone conclusion, with the two playing to a finish this evening in what promises to be a thriller.

‘Something quite special’ – Moody announces himself at Crucible with blistering debut break

World Championship LIVE - Wilson 3-6 Moody
A run of 77 and Kyren reduces his arrears; I can't wait to see what happens when the two play to a finish tonight.
World Championship LIVE - Wilson 2-6 Moody (61-12)
And he rattles through a break, the frame almost his. He won't have expected to be so far behind, but knows he can come on strong; how will Stan handle the pressure of playing to a finish?
World Championship LIVE - Wilson 2-6 Moody (15-12)
A fine pot, clobbered to right corner, keeps Kyren in business, and there are plenty of balls there for him. He'll expect himself to clear from here.
World Championship LIVE - Wilson 2-6 Moody (15-12)
Kyren badly needs this one but it's Stan in first and the 19-year-old has played beautifully this morning. But on a cut-back red to right corner, he hits the jaw, leaving a chance that really needs taking.
World Championship LIVE - Wilson 2-6 Moody
Let's do the last frame of the session on table two, the 2024 champ in trouble.
World Championship LIVE - Ding Junhui beats Dave Gilbert 10-5
Ding hadn't won a match in 2026, but he's oozed class in this match. Next for him comes the champ, Zhao Xintong – an entirely different proposition, good though Dave is.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (66-36)
Gosh, Ding lays a horreedous snooker, white behind black and red behind green, Dave's escape misses, leaving a free ball, and this is did.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (61-36)
A horrible black goes down, and if Ding can get on to the red on the top rail, he'll surely move on. but first one with the rest, cued beautifully parallel to the rail into the corner, great shot, but can he get the cannon on that final ball? He cannot, so it's a safety with the lead 25, 35 left.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (37-36)
Ding calmly forges in front. Dave will be staying focused, but he knows the jig is up.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (1-36)
Nice red to Dave, then a brown needing cutting ... and missed! Chance for Ding to power through into round two!
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (0-35)
Taking extra care, Dave accumulates then, running out of position off the black, he can only tickle into what remains of the pack, clearly raging at the run of the balls which, throughout this match, have gone with Ding. Still, the lead is one worth having.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert (0-22)
Dave has a look at one to the green bag and drifts in a decent effort, then builds in full knowledge that any error could mean curtains. Pressure!

World Championship LIVE - On table two
Kyren Wilson 2-4 Stan Moody
If Stan can nab this frame too – and he leads 32-9 – he'll really fancy it.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 9-5 Gilbert
A break of 106 and Ding is a frame away.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-5 Gilbert (86-0)
Ding's hit a decent pace in this frame, and there's a ton there for the taking.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-5 Gilbert (55-0)
Ding accumulates, and this is a good response to the last two frames. He's going four up with five to play.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-5 Gilbert (27-0)
Dave takes on a hopeful opener, misses, and Ding's in; with the balls pretty nicely spread, there are points to be seized.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-5 Gilbert
Ding gets in early doors and when he runs out of position, Dave plays a decent safety ... then cannons the pink, sending it into left corner; it costs him just the six points while, on table two, Stan Moody records a 110 to move 4-2 in front against Kyren Wilson, the 54th player to make a ton in his first match at the Cruce; Dave and Ding are also both on that list.
We go again...
World Championship LIVE - On table two
Kyren Wilson 1-3 Stan Moody
But Kyren is at the table with points on the board and balls available.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-5 Gilbert
A fantastic clearance from Dave, a run of 61 giving him a 3-1 session-win and keeping him in the contest as the players go into the interval.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (68-42)
Another black to corner ... spanked home, and now it's colours off their spots for the frame. Two huge errors from ding, the black off its spot last frame and the missed plant this, and suddenly this is a contest.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (68-35)
Out comes the rest again, this time to cut back to right corner, he forces it home ... and cannons the pack to release the next ball. The pot, though, a mid-ranger to corner, isn't easy at all ... but he sends it home, leaving yet another brutal shot to maintain the run, a delicate cut on the black ... and again, he plays it beautifully, then adds another horrible red. What an effort this is, with more yet required.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (68-14)
Seeking a thin contact - Dave's safety was a good one - Ding fouls, so Dave gets away with a lovely opener, but a nasty miss means he must sort a horrible cut-back brown into the yellow bag. Oh yes, it's there, but is he going to run into what's left of the cluster and lose position? Er, sort of; a brutal cut – with the rest and into a blind pocket – awaits him next, he scythes it home, and have we a new favourite for the frame?
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (68-6)
Ding checked out a plant a few shots ago and he plays for it now, it looks pretty well set, if not perfect ... and it stops out! Dave returns to the table 62 behind with 67 left, playing safe as he forages for an opportunity.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (46-6)
Ding is so beautiful to watch, his touch and precision to die for. He's work to do still, as the pack needs attention, but there's no reason to think he'll not execute.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert (17-6)
A poor safety from Ding – he's not played many in this match – allows Dave to drop into right corner, though he opts not to bother the pack though he's got the angle on the blue ... and he then misses when he shouldn't. The last thing anyone wants to do is leave Ding in like this, and he'll fancy himself to go five up with six to play here.
World Championship LIVE - On table two
Kyren Wilson 1-3 Stan Moody
Kyren is into the match but he'll need a decent start after the mid-sesh.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-4 Gilbert
A clearance of 78, Dave's highest break of the match, keeps him in it.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-3 Gilbert (30-57)
And he does. He's still in dis ting, just.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-3 Gilbert (30-16)
A pair of difficult pots keep Dave going, and from here, he ought to reduce his arrears.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-3 Gilbert (30-9)
This isn't as precise a run as we expect from Ding, but he's still at the table potting. At some point, he'll have to go into the pack and it might be now ... no, he decides he can hold for the final loose red ... only to leave black in the jaws! I didn't see that coming, and I'm sure Dave didn't either. But he's back at the table, opens the cluster, and this is a crucial visit.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-3 Gilbert (2-1)
A red an no more for Dave, but when Ding gets away he rockets a brown to the green bag ... which stops out. So the Angry Farmer, left on black cush, tries a minger of a cut-back ... and the ball won't drop. Chance for Ding to seize swift redemption...
World Championship LIVE - On table two
Kyren Wilson 0-3 Stan Moody
Stan, having won through qualifying, including an arse-nipper in the final round, arrived at the Cruce in form and he's shown not a hint of nerves, a 91 putting him up 3-0, Kyren needs to get going, quickly.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 8-3 Gilbert
That feels like the decisive blow.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (38-60)
Green to black are on their spots and the first of them disappears. Dave will be feeling poorly.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (38-57)
This is the most important visit of the match – if Ding dishes, he'll be almost impregnable at 8-3, but 7-4 it's a different thing. A bad contact, though, means a harder shot than ideal, then again, so here comes a tight one to middle and it's into the far knuckle but will it drop? Gosh, somehow. I've no idea why that didn't stay out, so it's blue to try and develop that difficult ball ... oh and what a shot that is! This frame is going to Ding!
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (17-57)
And Dave will be feart they're going to Ding, a loose safety leaving plenty. There's a red not far off the side that might save him, but he'll be sweating.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (1-57)
The balls are nicely set, so does Dave take on a mid-distance red down the side to corner? He decides he's going to, misses ... and leaves nothing. There are 75 points remaining.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (1-42)
And it's Ding in next ... but he immediately undercuts the yellow, his first colour, offering Dave the chance to get the frame won. He's warming to his task here and, as something of a confidence player, that is not a good sign for his opponent.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (0-24)
This looks a chance, you know ... but a loose positional shot means a nasty cut on the red, that probably means not staying on the back ... and it's overcut, nothing left.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert (0-9)
Ding misses a long one by a fortnight, Dave sinks confidently, and off he goes again, black passing to both corners.
World Championship LIVE - On table two
Kyren Wilson 0-1 Stan Moody
A quick kill for ther youngster in his first Crucible frame, a run of 84 putting him in front in what looks like the match of the round.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-3 Gilbert
Dave breaks down but, returning to the table needing a snooker, Ding misses a diag to left corner and concedes.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-2 Gilbert (4-45)
No matter: Dave, still in control of the exchange, soon forces an opportunity, and from here, he should reduce his arrears.

World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-2 Gilbert (4-26)
Dave snicks a lovely red from middle to left corner, then tucks in behind the yellow, leaving Ding a tricky escape – there's plenty to hit, but how he gets everything safe remains a mystery. He gets close but misses, then adjusts and clips the black ... offering a pretty straightforward opener. Problem being Dave contrives to land on nowt, so it's s safety; this time, the response is a goodun.
World Championship LIVE - Ding 7-2 Gilbert (0-13)
Technical gremlins now resolved, we're off and playing safety.
