Thepchaiya Un-Nooh stunned Ronnie O’Sullivan to take his second ranking title with three consecutive centuries, one of them a maximum, in the World Open final.

He’d already surprised the Englishman in the first session when he came back from four down to lead into the break 5-4, and Un-Nooh would look to continue his good form by stealing the 10th frame.

The Thai potted a brilliant blue that pulled applause, but the real winner would be O’Sullivan who punished his next mistake with a century.

O’Sullivan would go on to take the next two frames with tons of 102 and 136 to retake the lead going into the last interval.

Coming back, O’Sullivan only managed six between two breaks from Un-Nooh to make it 7-7, and he continued with remarkable composure for only his third ranking final.

The Thai’s opening shots were bold and full of risk, but they paid off for him with his blistering form, and in the penultimate frame, his commitment to a maximum brought the crowd to the edge of their seats.

Un-Nooh played the snooker of his life to take three centuries of his own (132, 147, 131) to claim the World Open title in stunning fashion.

He also earns £175,000, a place at the Tour Championship, and a position in the top 12 on the One-Year List.

Un-Nooh is playing the snooker of his life. He takes a moment to breathe after the black drops after an eternity between the jaws, but he continues on nevertheless in fine form. The title is his after this utterly special performance.

'I can't believe it' - Un-Nooh flukes an 'unbelievable' red to ramp up pressure on O'Sullivan

First session report: O'Sullivan stunned by Un-Nooh comeback

Ronnie O'Sullivan cut a frustrated figure as he saw a 4-0 lead in the World Open final wiped out by Thepchaiya Un-Nooh with the Thai player ending a remarkable first session 5-4 clear in Yushan.

Appearing in his 66th major ranking event final, O'Sullivan looked to be coasting to the £175,000 first prize as he reeled off the first four frames boosted by breaks of 73 and 124 and a massive steal in the fourth frame on the final black after his opponent had produced a knock of 50.

But the script flipped entirely in the final five frames of the afternoon session as a combination of O'Sullivan's misses and some serious good fortune for Un-Nooh saw the world No. 30 edge ahead before they play to a finish on Sunday night in the Chinese city.

An 83 helped him win his first frame of the final before he dominated the sixth frame to claim a second successive frame.

O'Sullivan looked set to move 5-2 ahead after opening with a 51 run in the eighth frame, but a bad miss on a green enabled Un-Nooh to pinch the frame on the black.

The momentum continued to ebb away from O'Sullivan, who watched his opponent compile 82 and 80 to eke a 5-4 lead that never seemed possible.

Un-Nooh somehow watched a pink drop leading 15-1 in the eighth frame that look destined to stay out with the run of the ball clearly favouring him.

Another huge fluked red in the ninth frame helped Un-Nooh claim a fifth straight frame with the interval in the match probably coming at a good time for O'Sullivan, who needs to launch his own fightback when they resume at 11:30am GMT.

O'Sullivan is bidding to win his first ranking title since the World Grand Prix in January 2024.
