Duncan Scott stormed to victory in the men’s 200m individual medley to seal a first gold medal of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games for Team Scotland, prompting jubilant scenes inside the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Scott was the favourite and lived up to the billing, stopping the clock at 1:56.38 to set a new Commonwealth Games record.
It was a fourth gold medal for Scott at the Commonwealth Games, adding to his triumphs in the 100m freestyle in 2018 and his 200m freestyle and 200m medley titles in 2022.
He now has 18 long-course gold medals on his roll of honour at Olympic, world, European and Commonwealth level.
It was double delight for the home nations, as Team England’s Thomas Dean took bronze, while New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt won the silver.
Scott told TNT Sports: "It was a tough one because you really want to give the team some good momentum early doors and being one of the senior members of the team, the onus was on me.
"I was a bit nervous before that. Those boys made it tough, but I’m happy with that. It’s a good way to start the meet."
Paying tribute to the crowd, Scott added: "Anytime the UK hosts a sporting event, the crowd gets behind it. The atmosphere was unreal [at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games] and it’s the exact same here."
Alongside Scott, Dean spoke about what it was like to race against a good friend.
"I love it," Dean said. "I’ve raced Duncan my whole adult career. We stood on the podium in this event four years ago.
"To stand next to him and walk out with him in front of his home crowd is something I’m not ever going to forget."
"I’m fortunate enough to call him a training partner as well as a friend."

Clegg claims silver
There is a saying in Scotland about Glasgow buses, and it rang true in the pool on day one.
After Scott got the medal party started, the hosts did not have long to wait for another.
In the men’s 100m freestyle S13, Paralympian Stephen Clegg took silver behind South Africa’s Nathan Hendricks.

At one stage it looked like Stephen and brother James would both medal, but the latter faded in the second 50m to finish fifth.
Team England also picked up another medal, with Matthew Redfern taking the bronze to round out the podium.
