Jannik Sinner makes history with fifth straight Masters 1000 title as he beats Alexander Zverev to win in Madrid - 'Something incredible'

The triumph in the Spanish capital was the latest high point of a sensational run for the Italian, who has also claimed the Monte Carlo Masters, the Miami Open, Indian Wells and the Paris Masters, since October 2025.

Sinner was in top form against Zverev, winning inside an hour while dropping just three games as he continued his perfect preparation for the 2026 French Open, which will get under way on May 18, live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

Sinner has now won eight of the nine Masters events, with only Rome, up next on the calendar, missing from his collection.

Novak Djokovic is the only other man to have won all the Masters tournaments.

Speaking after the match about winning five straight Masters titles, four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner said: "There is a lot of work behind it.

"A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, seeing these results. At some point, results are going to be down, which is normal.

”I’m very happy that I’ve continued to believe in myself. I’m showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline. To do so, you need to have the right team behind you, which I have. I’m very happy about me, but also the team, and this means a lot to all of us.

”I know we are doing something incredible so thank you so much.

”Thanks for standing by my side, I know that maybe a lot Italians are watching so thanks for the support at home, I really feel it."

Sinner converted all four break points he earned against Zverev and did not face a single break point himself.

He will return to action at the Italian Open in Rome next week, where he was beaten in last year’s final by Carlos Alcaraz, who is currently out injured.

Rome will be the final stop on the road to the French Open, where Sinner looks set to be a massive favourite.

Zverev will also be among the contenders in the French capital, and he admitted that he had not produced his best performance in Madrid.

”First of all, super sorry for the final, it was not my best day,” he said.

”Then of course, congratulations to Jannik, the best player in the world right now by far.

”Really, no chance for most other people, for us, against you.

”Also, to your team, you guys are doing an incredible job every single week.”

Zverev joked that maybe Sinner and his team could give somebody else a chance at Roland-Garros later this month.

”I hope maybe one week, or maybe the French Open, you could just have a break,” he added.
