Gael Monfils defied belief at times during his French Open epic with Jack Draper on Thursday on Philippe-Chatrier, particularly when he proved he is still "one of the fastest human beings" on a tennis court - according to John McEnroe. The commentator made the remark after the 38-year-old somehow managed to return a shot that had clipped the net. "How did he even get that?" questioned McEnroe.

At 38 years old, Gael Monfils remains one of the fastest players on tour, according to John McEnroe.
The TNT Sports commentator was reacting to an incredible return from the home favourite, who somehow managed to chase down and return a shot of Jack Draper's that had clipped the net.
"How did he even get that?" questioned McEnroe, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
"He’s one of the fastest human beings I’ve seen on a tennis court… still."
The point came midway through a tense fourth set on Court Philippe-Chatrier, with Monfils at the back of the court but - against all odds - still managing to reach the ball.
Unfortunately for Monfils, Draper was alert, racing forward to win the point during an epic French Open second-round match.

Watching back on the replay, McEnroe analysed the incredible moment.
"Look where he is there," highlighting that the Frenchman was towards the back of the court when Draper struck the ball.
"This ball clips the tape before it bounces. Not only did he get there but he did a pretty good job with that shot.
"Draper, fortunately for himself, was moving forward and was able to handle it."
In the end, Draper got over the line to see off the veteran 6-3 4-6 6-3 7-5 and seal his place in the third round of the French Open.
