THE FRENCH OPEN CHAMPION BRUSHES PAST GIRON TO REACH R4 AT WIMBLEDON 2026
Alexander Zverev proved too strong for Marcos Giron as the reigning Roland-Garros champion reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon for just the fourth time.
The second seed did most of the heavy-lifting with his powerhouse serve as he notched a 6-2 7-6 6-4 victory on No.1 Court.
The German raced through the opener as he broke twice on his way to serving it out in 36 minutes.
Giron improved markedly in the second, holding with relative ease and posing more questions on the second seed’s serve. However, it was Zverev who came out on top by a 7-4 scoreline in the breaker to take a stranglehold on the match.
The American world number 92 looked dejected as he coughed up his serve early in the third, but he battled back to level at 4-4 and threaten a plot twist.
However, what proved to be a lengthy final game went the way of Zverev as he broke on a first match point to set up a fourth-round clash with Jiri Lehecka or Jaume Munar.

The American survives from there to consolidate via a long and winding road and this third set is anyone’s right in its business end.
