Linda Noskova secures three-set victory over fellow-Czech Karolina Muchova to win her maiden major title on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026

Linda Noskova claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the first time of asking with a rollercoaster win over fellow Czech Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old looked to be cruising to the title but blew five match points in the second set before recovering in the decider to triumph 6-2 5-7 6-3 after two hours and 28 minutes on Centre Court.

"It feels incredible," said Noskova in her post-match interview on court.

"Today and all these matches have been so tough, physically and mentally. Today especially, [it's] never easy to get the last point. Karo [Muhcova], you made me earn it.

"I’m so glad I could play my first Grand Slam final with you, I think we made history today."

Noskova added: ”I believe all our Czech fans at home are proud of us, so no matter the result today, it was a good day for both of us."

Muchova, who was appearing in her second major final after a runner-up finish at the 2023 French Open, looked nervy early on. The 10th seed had trouble controlling her usually productive forehand and that contributed to her surrendering serve twice as Noskova conjured up a sublime lob on her fifth set point to breeze through a 31-minute opener.

The 29-year-old Muchova, who was the oldest ladies’ finalist since 1998, improved markedly at the commencement of the second set but could not convert any of her three break points at 1-1.

Ninth seed Noskova made her pay as she upped the ante on the return to break before consolidating to love to move to the brink of victory with a 5-2 advantage.

However, Muchova dug deep to somehow fend off five match points as she took advantage of her opponent’s sudden collapse to win five games in a row and force a decider.

The momentum seemed to be with the older Czech but Noskova swung the pendulum her way early in the third to seize a 3-0 lead.

It was deja vu as the ninth seed moved 5-2 up but this time she did not blink as she served out on her sixth match point to secure the Venus Rosewater Dish.

”It’s really tough to find any words. I’ll start with Linda, my ex friend," joked a tearful Muchova, who has now lost both of her Grand Slam finals.

”I’m kidding obviously, kind of. You are so young and this was your first Grand Slam final, the way you handled it and how you played was unbelievable."

Muchova added: ”Congratulations to you and your team, you deserve it."

Noskova is the fourth-youngest player in the Open Era to claim her maiden Women’s Singles Grand Slam title in Wimbledon, older only than Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova.

Noskova is the third player in the Open Era to win the Women’s Singles title in Wimbledon after saving match point(s) en route after Venus Williams (2005) and Serena Williams (2009).

Muchova spews a wild forehand wide off an unfortunate bounce but Linda creates pressure for herself with a plus-one forehand into the net.

The ninth seed shows great patience as a thunderbolt backhand comes back and she arrows away a cold forehand winner to move 30-15 up.

A timely ace earns two more match points and at the SIXTH time of asking a rocket first serve seals the title!

Muchova punches away a sumptuous serve and volley routine to romp through to love.

Linda marauds through a most-welcome love hold and she is again … one game from the title…

So near and yet so far…

Muchova cannons down her seventh ace of the day and glosses over an early double fault to stay in touch with a hold to 30 courtesy of a clinical plus-one forehand.

Muchova plays the Hollywood tweener to retrieve a lob but Linda stands firm to thud a thunderous forehand winner for a 30-0 lead.

Karolina retorts with a venomous one of her own up the line but great hustle from Noskova sees her get to another drop shot and turn the rally around to thump away a volleyed winner.

The ninth seed continues to play with more aggression and control now and the forehand does all the damage as she edges closer to her target with a hold to 15.

Noskova looks frustrated as she fails to find the court after getting to the re-drop in good time at 30-15 down.

The 21-year-old presses from 40-15 down as she jabs a super pick-up down the line but Karolna zaps a forehand winner to keep her at bay and get back on the board.

Noskova scraps her way to 40-30 but is pushed to deuce when Muchova outfoxes her with a smart drop shot.

The 10th seed earns break back point with a sensational counter-punched backhand down the line on the run but Linda wipes it out with a one-two forehand punch.

The ninth seed lands a big serve to earn another chance to consolidate and shows greater focus and resilience here to finally make it happen.

Another plot twist!

Noskova suddenly rekindles some of that first-set form on the return and the depth on her groundstrokes cause Muchova to crumble.

The 10th seed jabs a forehand from her shoelaces long trying to repel a forehand to the baseline at Pulp and then leaks a wayward strike long off the other wing to allow Linda to take early control.

The attempt to reset in the pause between sets doesn’t work and Linda’s wobbles continue as she coughs up an instant break point.

Muchova almost converts with an awkward miscued return but Linda shows good composure to bunt a forehand down the line and survive.

The 21-year-old staves off a second with crushing crosscourt forehand but Karolina earns a third with a delicate backhand volley at the net.

The ninth seed looks to be in trouble in the ensuing rally but a supreme re-direct on a crosscourt forehand is just too good and she uses it to plot a path out of dodge.

It’s a huge, huge hold for the younger Czech as she stops the rot to kick off the decider in positive fashion.

Incredible!

Muchova was 5-2 down in this second set but five games later she has saved FIVE match points and reeled off all five games in a row as she holds to 15 to take us into a third.

Noskova just about licks the edge of the line with a one-two forehand punch but is shaky at 30-0 and a timid mid-court approach allows Muchova to give it the treatment with a pass down the line.

The ninth seed buries a tight backhand into the net and leaks woeful forehands off the island to implode and hand over another break.

Muchova has saved FIVE match points here but is now serving to force a decider.

Noskova put her fingers in her ears to cancel out the noise of the Centre Court crowd who were rejoicing at the prospect of Muchova breaking back and offering them more tennis to enjoy.

The ninth seed locks-in on the return and a forehand down the line poses a threat at 15-30.

Karolina edges to Pulp but loses the forehand-to-forehand exchange to offer up a fifth match point.

The 10th seed again survives with a plus-one forehand down the line and Linda let's out an anguished cry when she spews a return way off the island.

It's edgy stuff out there as Muchova prolongs the game with a leaky forehand way long, but Noskova drills into the net and looks dismayed when she sprays a backhand wide.

All square at five apiece in the second and the 21-year-old desperately needs to reset and forget the near misses.

Noskova saves it with a plus-one drive volley but a brilliant return earns a short ball for Karolina to arrow away a backhand winner to claim a second chance.

Linda responds with a huge plus-one forehand and it’s rinse and repeat to secure a fourth MP - but she double faults at the worst possible time to give Muchova a lifeline.

The 10th seed seizes upon the reprieve with a backhand down the line teeing up a third BP but an ace down the T swats it away.

It's deja vu on a break points four, five and six as Noskova comes up clutch with aces and an unreturnable first serve.

A double fault gives Karolina another opportunity and it's seventh time lucky as Noskova fires off the island again to allow her fellow Czech to break back!

Muchova stares down the barrel under pressure throughout but conjures up a devilish drop shot at 15-15 before arrowing away the pick-up with an arcing crosscourt forehand pass.

The 10th seed just can’t pull free as Linda reels her in at 30-15 and 40-30 before another miscued forehand offers up match point from deuce.

Noskova blinks with a backhand into the net and then fires long on a second MP.

Muchova doesn't do enough with a bounce smash and ends up volleying long to hand over a THIRD match point.

Karolina resists with an ice-cold drop shot and somehow claws her way to safety to pose the serve-out question when her opponent blasts a wild backhand off the island.

One away…

It’s tantalisingly close for Linda now.

The 21-year-old hammers down that hefty first serve and zaps a pearl of a forehand down the line as she consolidates to love.

Ouch.

Muchova had done so much pressing in those first couple of games, but she collapses in this latest service game and it may be fatal.

The 29-year-old tip-toes into her left corner but overcooks an inside-in forehand long to cough up two break points.

Noskova goes big on the first with as thunderbolt return to feet and the 10th seed folds with a tame riposte into the net.

Noskova earns a clap of her racquet from Muchova as she steps into her left alley and rockets a splendid backhand winner down the line.

It’s perfection but isn’t even the best point of the game as she backs up a lob volley with another crosscourt, knifed short slice to completely bamboozle Karolina and close a hold to 15.
