Iga Swiatek reaches last 16 at Wimbledon after convincing straight-sets victory against Danielle Collins

Iga Swiatek has reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon after a dominant straight-sets victory against the USA's Danielle Collins. There was very little Collins could do as the world No. 4 impressed on Centre Court. Swiatek is hoping to make it past the quarter-finals of the tournament for the first time this year, having previously been eliminated at that stage in 2023.

Iga Swiatek insists she is growing in confidence on grass after booking her place in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon with a 6-2 6-3 victory over the USA's Danielle Collins.

The Polish star is hoping to make it past the quarter-finals in SW19 for the first time this year, having previously struggled to replicate her remarkable French Open form on grass.

Swiatek's best showing at Wimbledon came in 2023 when she reached the quarter-finals, but having come out on top at Roland-Garros four times since 2020, she would have hoped for more.

The 24-year-old admits she is feeling much more at home on grass-court surfaces after the convincing win against Collins.

"I was just in the zone you know," she told the BBC. "I knew what I wanted to play and I knew I needed to be brave.

"You can't let Danielle play her winners, you know.

"Yeah [I am learning to love grass courts], honestly it is much more fun this year.

"I had some practices where the ball was listening to me which is pretty new on grass.

"I am just looking for that feeling during the match as well.

"For sure today was a good day, for sure it is giving me confidence and honestly, it is a new experience feeling good on grass."

The two players traded the first two games of the contest, but Swiatek secured the first break in the third to take a 2-1 lead in the opening set.

Collins had the chance to get back on level terms at the first time of asking, but her rival saved two break points to double her advantage.

It was 4-1 shortly after when Swiatek produced her second break of the opening set.

The world No. 4 followed that up with another defiant display to hold and move within one game of winning the opener.

Collins showed heart to make it 5-2 shortly after, but it was not enough as Swiatek wrapped up the first set.

It was more of the same from the five-time Grand Slam winner at the start of the second set as she broke Collins before holding serve to take a 2-0 lead.

Collins reduced the deficit to one game after surviving a deuce, much to the delight of the Centre Court crowd who were firmly behind the underdog throughout.

However it was 3-1 shortly after following another impressive Swiatek hold.

The pair continued to trade games as Collins desperately looked to get back into the second set.

However, there was nothing she could do as Swiatek wrapped up the win with a 6-3 triumph in the second to set up a match with Denmark's Clara Tauson.

Tauson reached the Round of 16 after beating 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina on Court 2 in the third round.
