Amanda Anisimova's debut Grand Slam final ended in hugely disappointing fashion as she failed to win a game in a 6-0 6-0 defeat to Iga Swiatek. TNT Sports experts Nick Kyrgios and CoCo Vandeweghe showed love for the American, with the Australian, a former Wimbledon runner-up himself, saying it "doesn't really matter" as she will "have so much improvement for next time".

Nick Kyrgios and CoCo Vandeweghe explained why they are feeling "a bit of love" for Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova after she was thrashed by "killer" Iga Swiatek in an "uncomfortable" first major final.

The American enjoyed a dream run at the All England Club that included a stunning semi-final victory over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, but she was ruthlessly dismantled in a 6-0 6-0 loss to the Pole.

Swiatek claimed her sixth major title but her first on the grass courts of SW19 to gain all the plaudits, but Kyrgios and Vandeweghe felt for Anisimova after her bruising experience on Centre Court.

Speaking on the Wimbledon Watchalong on TNT Sports and discovery+, former SW19 runner-up Kyrgios said: "I think we’ve all been in that position before where we felt extremely uncomfortable on the court, where everything has gone wrong, you’ve done everything in your power to prepare but nothing hits the mark.

"I feel that’s why we have a bit of love for Amanda. We don’t want to take away the fact that she still made a Wimbledon final.

"Who cares? That match was yesterday and she’s going to have so much improvement for next time, so it doesn’t really matter."

Swiatek needed less than an hour to complete her victory after a performance Laura Robson described as "world-class," "brutal" and "ruthless."

However, Anisimova’s stellar fortnight propelled her into the top 10 in the WTA rankings for the first time at the age of 23.

The 13th seed received messages of support from across the world of tennis, including compatriot Coco Gauff after the defeat, and two-time WTA title winner Vandeweghe offered her backing too, while praising a statement display from Swiatek.

"I think sport is all about compassion," said Vandeweghe.

"The best thing we have is the relatability of what Amanda was going through and obviously, on the biggest stage of her career and the biggest moment.

"I sent a message to my old coach, Craig Kardon, afterwards. He coached Martina Navratilova in many Wimbledon Championships, two titles. I asked him what could she have done, what could her team have done?

"He said as a coach I would have taken more responsibility of taking the fear away from her. Sometimes, when you’re out there on the biggest stages, fear can just freeze you like a deer in headlights.

"But credit to Iga. She came out like the veteran, like the killer she is, and just dominated from the word go. Even walking out of the locker room, being 20 feet in front of Amanda.

"It was amazing to see her have that turnaround from a lacklustre clay-court season, to be able to prove herself on the grass courts, where everyone counted her out."
