Amanda Anisimova delivers verdict after 52-minute win over Emma Raducanu at Indian Wells - 'It's never easy to play against her'

Emma Raducanu is out of Indian Wells, having been overpowered by US player Amanda Anisimova in a match lasting just 52 minutes. The Brit, who parted company with coach Mark Petchey after a disappointing exit at the Australian Open in January, lost 6-1 6-1 to the sixth seed, who insisted that she had been taking her time against the 24-year-old in the round-of-32 clash.

Amanda Anisimova said she took her time against Emma Raducanu at Indian Wells – after beating the Brit in a match lasting just 52 minutes.

Raducanu, the tournament’s 25th seed, was beaten 6-1 6-1. Sixth-seed Anisimova broke Raducanu in her opening game, and her opponent claimed just 11 points in the opening set.

Raducanu, who took on Mark Petchey as a temporary coach after parting company with Francisco Roig after the Australian Open in January, lost the first three games of the second set before being able to hold her serve.

There was to be no way back for 23-year-old Raducanu, as Anisimova powered on to progress to the next round.

"I’m really happy with my performance," said Anisimova in her press conference. "It’s never easy to play against Emma, so [I was] really happy with the way I was able to start playing from beginning to finish.

"It’s a mindset I try to go into, and really commit to what I’m doing. I think that’s the biggest shift for me. Hopefully, I can try to keep that going."

Anisimova, a 2025 Wimbledon finalist, was asked if she had been keeping an eye on the shot clock between points against Raducanu.

"I didn’t feel like I was rushing today," said the US player. "I feel like I was taking my time.

"I feel like it wasn’t that hot today either, so maybe we were quite ready for the next point. If anything, I like to take my time, so I try to not go over the shot clock."

Raducanu had beaten Anastasia Zakharova in straight sets in her opening match at Indian Wells.

The 24-year-old said that she wanted "to be playing a different way" following her second-round Australian Open defeat to Anastasia Potapova in January.

"I think I want to be playing a different way," she added. "And I think the misalignment with how I'm playing right now and how I want to be playing is something that I just want to work on.

"I think there are definitely pockets of me playing how I want to play, and it comes out in flashes, which is a positive, and maybe more than certain times in my career in the last few years. But it's not how I want to be, like, consistently every day.

"So it's not going to fall into place straight away, but the more I work on how I want to be playing, it will be more of my identity every time I step onto the court.

"I need to work at that, but it's not going to happen overnight."
