Scottish fans were left fuming at the SEC Centre after home favourite Alan Perrie’s boxing bout with Australian Paul Trainor came to an abrupt end. The referee controversially called time, allegedly due to a ”nosebleed”, eliminating the Scot from the competition.

The pair met in the round of 32 of the men’s 80kg competition of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and exchanged strong jabs as they sparred in the first round.
The ordeal left Perrie with blood flowing out of his nose, but he was ahead on points on four out of the five cards.
With blood still streaming from his nose, the fight was paused for Perrie to get some treatment, which commentator Richie Woodhall disagreed with.
He said: ”It’s not from the eyes, it’s a nosebleed. It’s a fight at the end of the day, you’re going to expect a bit of blood.”
The bout was halted for a second time when Perrie’s gumshield was punched out, and then finally for good a minute later, supposedly for his bleeding nose.
Dave Farrar was equally surprised by the decision, as the Scottish faithful let their feelings be known in the arena, greeting the result with a chorus of boos.

”Have they stopped it? This is unbelievable, they have,” he said.
”I think it has been stopped for that reason, they were just celebrating in the Australian corner. Silence all around, no-one can quite believe what they’re watching here.
”They’re having a look over at the referee, but they were celebrating in the Australian corner.
”I think it was caused by a punch, but we’d have to confirm that. It’s what the referee thinks that matters. Perrie looks completely disconsolate.
”Perrie has just run off, unsurprisingly. Trainor should probably stop milking it here because he wants to get the crowd on side going forward.”
Woodhall added: ”That’s terrible for me. If that’s on a nosebleed, I mean, come on.
”The question is, is there another injury, a worse injury? Because if that’s stopped because the referee cannot stop the flow of blood from a nosebleed, then that I’m afraid is a poor decision from the doctor for me, terrible.”
Orie: ‘That caught everybody off guard’
Former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Delicious Orie was also bemused by the decision to end the fight prematurely.
Orie won gold in the super-heavyweight category in Birmingham 2022 and was ringside to offer his analysis.
He said: ”That’s quite a tough pill to swallow, I don’t know where to begin. That caught everybody off guard in the room today. Perrie obviously is going to be very emotional from that.
He’s put everything to compete here. Nobody saw what happened there. I guess the referee’s the closest to the action, so he might have seen the intensity of what happened.
”Just from watching it on the screen and in person, there’s nothing.”
While incredulity dominated the SEC Centre, Farrar chipped in with an opposing view.
He said: ”The doctor is the one that’s shining a light into his mouth and looking at his nose and the doctor has decided that he can’t continue.
”I will say, as devil’s advocate: ‘who are we to overrule a doctor?’ Though, of course, deep down, I’m also saying ‘I agree with you.’”
Trainor will face Namibia’s Gebhard Ipinge in the round of 16 as he hunts for medals on his Commonwealth Games debut.
