Williamson clocked 59.17 to earn Australia another medal in the pool at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, improving on his time from the semi-finals, something Ramsay-Peaty was unable to do.
The world record holder had taken a break from swimming in 2023 due to mental health pressures, but returned to action in 2024, winning a silver medal at the Olympics in Paris.
However, he was keen to stress his enjoyment of competing in the pool, while reflecting on how he can balance swimming with his personal life, as he and his wife Holly Ramsay are expecting a child.
Ramsay-Peaty said: ”I’m not too fussed about the performance there because I really enjoyed it. I think there’s obviously something going wrong in terms of the data.
”I’ve got to debrief, obviously very happy to race Filip. Getting third place is still a privilege, but I’m still happy.
”I think that’s where I am in the sport. A medal can’t prove that or take that away from me.
”You have to go to highs and lows in this sport. I’ll have to really think about the hundred because it requires a lot of work. And to even get near where I was, it’s going to require absolutely everything.

”Is that formula actually the right formula when I’m going to be a father of two? I don’t think so.
”I’ve really got to think on that and see where my family is. They’re important to training and sport and just figuring that out. But it’s too early to tell.”

Teenager Nowacki reflects on ‘privilege’ racing alongside Ramsay-Peaty

Ramsay-Peaty had looked strong in the heats and semi-finals, winning both, as this final was billed as a straight fight between him and Nowacki, the 18-year-old rising star, but both had to settle for lower steps on the podium behind Williamson.
Nowacki is tipped as a future gold medallist and pipping Ramsay-Peaty to silver as the two competed in adjacent lanes was perhaps a sign of the changing of the guard.
The Jersey swimmer was keen to praise the man who he grew up watching, but is ready to take on the baton of being a role model.
He said: ”That was absolutely electric. The standard here is so amazing.
”Adam started up here 12 years ago, and I’ve watched him, growing up, in Rio, in Tokyo, in Paris, so it’s a real privilege to race him.
”I was always the one getting inspired, so now to be on the other side is special to me.”
