2026 FIE World Fencing Championships Preview: World’s best vie for glory in Hong Kong

The world’s finest epee, foil, and sabre athletes are set to descend on Hong Kong, China, as the 2026 FIE Senior World Fencing Championships take place from 22nd – 30th July at AsiaWorld-Expo. With world titles, national pride and international ranking points on the line, nine days of elite competition promise world-class action, fierce rivalries and unforgettable moments.

Organised by the Fédération Internationale d’Escrime (FIE) and the local organising committee, the World Championships will feature individual and team competitions across all six Olympic disciplines: men’s and women’s epee, foil, and sabre. This is the first time Hong Kong will host the Senior World Fencing Championships.
More than 1000 elite athletes representing over 100 nations are expected to compete, including Paris 2024 Olympic Champions, defending World Champions, rising stars and a glittering array of local and international talent.
Athletes from powerhouse fencing nations such as USA, Great Britain, Italy, France, Japan, South Korea, China, Hungary and host nation Hong Kong are all eager for podium finishes, with multiple emerging national teams aiming to act as spoilers.
According to the FIE, current team entries include:
Men’s Team Epee: 48 nations
Women’s Team Epee: 36 nations
Men’s Team Sabre: 35 nations
Women’s Team Foil: 28 nations
Great Britain arrives with an exciting mix of experienced internationals and promising newcomers. The officially selected squad includes men’s foil fencers Jaimie Cook and David Sosnov, women’s foil athletes Amelie Tsang and Zoë Wagstaff, along with competitors across all three weapons, as Britain looks to build on its growing presence on the world stage.
The programme follows the traditional World Championships format, with athletes progressing through the preliminary rounds before advancing to the knockout stages to compete for medals:
22 July: Men’s Foil and Women’s Epee – Individual preliminary rounds
23 July: Men’s Epee and Women’s Sabre – Individual preliminary rounds
24 July: Women’s Foil and Men’s Sabre – Individual preliminary rounds
25–27 July: Individual medal rounds and championship finals
25 July: Official Opening Ceremony
28 July: Men’s Foil Team and Women’s Epee Team competitions
29 July: Men’s Epee Team and Women’s Sabre Team competitions
30 July: Women’s Foil Team and Men’s Sabre Team competitions, followed by the Closing Ceremony
