Team Italy Dominates at 2026 FIE World Fencing Championships

Nine days of competition at the 2026 FIE Senior World Fencing Championships ended in Hong Kong, China, as the final six team titles were decided. Italy signed out with three team gold medals, while Kazakhstan, France and Hungary also finished on top of the podium after an entertaining conclusion to the championships.

The Italian team delivered another statement of strength across multiple weapons, winning the men’s foil, women’s foil and women’s epee titles to round off a memorable tournament that saw the nation leave Hong Kong with one of the strongest medal hauls of the championships.
The men’s foil final provided one of the closest contests of the week. Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini and Tommaso Martini edged hosts Hong Kong, China 45-44 in a match decided by the final touch, denying the home team a memorable victory in front of their supporters.
Italy followed up with victory in the women’s foil, where Martina Batini, Anna Cristino, Arianna Errigo and individual world champion Martina Favaretto defeated the United States 45-29 to secure a second team gold.
The women’s epee final was equally dramatic. Gaia Caforio, Rossella Fiamingo, Giulia Rizzi and Alberta Santuccio edged Estonia 31-30 in the closest team final of the championships, completing Italy’s hat-trick of team titles.
Kazakhstan produced one of the defining moments of the championships by winning their first-ever men’s team epee world title.
Ruslan Kurbanov, Vadim Sharlaimov, Yerlik Sertay and Kirill Prokhodov combined for a disciplined performance to defeat Ukraine 39-33, delivering a great victory for Kazakh fencing.
France claimed the men’s sabre team title with an assured 45-31 victory over the Republic of Korea. Rémi Garrigue, Jean-Philippe Patrice, Sébastien Patrice and Maxime Pianfetti controlled the final from the outset to secure gold.
Hungary won the women’s sabre team title as Sugár Battai, Luca Szűcs, Anna Spiesz and Renáta Katona defeated China 45-41, adding another world title to the nation’s rich fencing tradition.
