Six World Champions Crowned as Individual Fencing Concludes in Hong Kong, China

The individual programme at the 2026 FIE Senior World Championships came to a spectacular conclusion in Hong Kong, China, with Russia’s Pavel Graudyn claiming the men’s sabre title and Italy’s Martina Favaretto capturing gold in the women’s foil over six days of world-class competition.

Their victories capped an action-packed week that showcased fencing at the highest level, producing memorable performances, breakthrough champions and fiercely contested finals across all six disciplines.

The final day saw 19-year-old Graudyn emerge as the new men’s sabre World Champion after he defeated Do Gyeong-dong of the Republic of Korea 15-7 in the gold-medal bout. Graudyn’s victory completed an impressive campaign through one of the championship’s most competitive fields, securing the biggest title of his career on the sport’s grandest stage.

In the women’s foil, Italy celebrated a major success as Favaretto was crowned World Champion following an outstanding run through the knockout rounds. Her triumph demonstrates Italy’s strength in foil and adds another prestigious world title to the nation’s rich fencing history.

Malcotti delivered a landmark victory for Switzerland in the men’s epee, while Choupenitch became the first Czech to win a World Championship medal in any category since 1985 when he claimed gold in men’s foil.

Song Sera won her second women’s epee world title, Eifler produced a memorable victory in women’s sabre, and Favaretto and Graudyn rounded off the Championships’ individual programme with impressive title-winning performances.
