The new club season is almost upon us after a summer of international football, and that means one thing - it’s time for the traditional curtain-raiser to the domestic game. The 2026 FA Community Shield will be contested by Arsenal and Manchester City ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

This year, however, the August 16 game between City and Arsenal, which will be live on TNT Sports and HBO Max, is not being staged at Wembley.
Instead, the annual match, which pits the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup winners against each other, will be played at Cardiff's Principality Stadium (formerly known as the Millennium Stadium) for the first time since 2006.
This is because Wembley is hosting a series of concerts by Canadian singer The Weeknd.
Boasting a retractable roof and a capacity of almost 74,000, Principality Stadium regularly hosts international rugby and football fixtures for the Welsh national teams.
Arsenal contested the Community Shield four times in Wales between 2002 and 2005, winning and losing two apiece.
The holders of the Community Shield are Crystal Palace, who beat Liverpool on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Wembley.

When is the Community Shield?
This year's FA Community Shield will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and kicks off at 15:00 UK time.
The showpiece event, which was once called the Charity Shield, slots into the diary one week before the 2026/27 Premier League campaign gets underway.

How did Arsenal and City get there?
Arsenal finished seven points ahead of City in the Premier League last season to win the title for the first time in 22 years.
Mikel Arteta's side, built on defensive solidity, sealed the title without kicking a ball after their rivals failed to beat Bournemouth in their penultimate fixture.
City, meanwhile, beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley to win the FA Cup thanks to a goal from Antonie Semenyo - and deliver Pep Guardiola one last trophy before his departure after a decade in charge.
