Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after suffering a fractured collarbone in a cycling accident.
Enrique led PSG to a historic treble last season, which included an emphatic 5-0 win in the UEFA Champions League final over Internazionale to finally break their European duck.
The French champions have picked up where they left off this season, winning their opening three matches against Nantes, Angers and Toulouse to sit top of the Ligue 1 pile at the first international break.
They also came back from 2-0 down against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup last month, eventually winning on penalties.
PSG released a statement revealing that Enrique required surgery after crashing whilst riding on Friday.
The statement read: "Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone.
"The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course."
Enrique is a keen cyclist who regularly embarks on tough rides and competes in challenging long-distance races.
In 2023, he finished the 700km Absa Cape Epic race, taking a little over 48 hours to complete the gruelling South African mountain race with his brother.
The year prior, when Spain manager, he announced the 2022 World Cup squad with players' names printed onto the roads as he cycled.
It is unknown how long it will take the 55-year-old to recover following surgery.
It was not the first blow of the weekend for PSG, whose star forward Ousmane Dembele left the field injured in France’s 2-0 win over Ukraine.
The Ballon d’Or favourite entered the fray in Wroclaw at half-time, replacing PSG team-mate Desire Doue, but was forced off with an apparent injury to his right hamstring after 81 minutes, with Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike replacing him to make his debut.

PSG face a nervous wait on the return of both their manager and star player ahead of a critical block of fixtures.
They welcome fifth-placed Lens to the Parc des Princes on September 14, before beginning their Champions League defence in the French capital against Atalanta.
The important matches come thick and fast for Enrique’s men, as they face Marseille in Le Classique at the Stade Velodrome on September 21.
A clash with strugglers Auxerre may offer a brief respite, before a mouth-watering Champions League tie with Barcelona at the Camp Nou, in a repeat of last season’s semi-final.
Enrique is one of the five nominees for the 2025 Johan Cruyff Trophy, presented to the best men’s manager at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on September 22.
Carlo Ancelotti won the first edition of the award last year, and Enrique is the front-runner to claim the second ahead of Napoli manager Antonio Conte, Hansi Flick of Barcelona, Liverpool’s Arne Slot and Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca.
Dembele is widely considered the favourite to win the main prize on the night, having been named among the 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or.
