Arne Slot has revealed that Liverpool are in the midst of an injury crisis in goal, with third-choice shot-stopper Freddie Woodman in contention to start against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has been ruled out for several weeks after picking up an injury in the Merseyside derby, while Alisson Becker has still not fully recovered from a hamstring issue that has seen him miss his side’s last three Premier League fixtures.

Woodman has only featured in two matches for The Reds this season, starting a 3-0 defeat against The Eagles in the Carabao Cup in October before coming off the bench during their 2-1 triumph over bitter rivals Everton on Sunday.

However, Slot says he could be their only fit goalkeeper come Saturday.

"No Giorgi [Mamardashvili] will definitely not be available tomorrow and not for the upcoming weeks,” he said.

"Ali [Alisson] is close to returning to play. Let's see if tomorrow comes too early. That leaves Freddie [Woodman] as an option who is definitely fit."

Slot also confirmed that Joe Gomez is available for selection, and that Wataru Endo would be fit enough to feature again before the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

"Joe is back in the squad, so that is really positive,” he added.

"Endo is starting to go out, not with the team, but he is starting to do exercises outside with the rehab team.

"He will not be available next week for Manchester United or the week after. We are hoping for him to be back at the end of the season."

Estevao out for rest of season

Things have gone from bad to worse for Chelsea fans after their interim head coach, Calum McFarlane, confirmed that Estevao will miss the rest of the season.

McFarlane, who will take charge of Chelsea’s clash with Leeds United on Sunday following Liam Rosenior’s sacking on Wednesday, also suggested that Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer are doubts for the weekend.

Estevao was taken off in the 16th minute of his side’s 1-0 defeat against Manchester United before missing their 3-0 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion.

McFarlane could not guarantee that Estevao would be back in time for this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

"Estevao, unfortunately, won't play for us this season. He is going to be out for a little bit of time. We're here to support him," he said.

"Joao [Pedro] and Cole [Palmer], they trained, they're in a good place. We don't know yet, we'll have a look at them and make a call on that. They're going to train tomorrow, so we are hopeful."

"I'm not sure on that [Estevao's availability for the FIFA World Cup] if I'm honest. He won't be available for us. I'm sure he's very hopeful he can make the World Cup, but I don't know on that."

Newcastle without Gordon for Arsenal clash

Anthony Gordon will not play a part in Newcastle United’s trip to Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal, according to Magpies manager Eddie Howe.

The England international also missed his side’s 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth last weekend.

Howe insists it is not a serious injury and that the 25-year-old will be back soon.

"Anthony won't make this game,” he said. "He hasn't trained this week. Again, not a serious injury, but not in time for this game. Hopefully, the next one."

However, Howe does not know if England full-back Tino Livramento will play again this term after he picked up an injury of his own.

"With Tino, he went for a scan initially," he added. "We don't think it's a bad injury. We will wait and see whether he will play again this season.

"He is due to have another scan at the weekend to determine the full extent of his time out."

Murillo out of crucial relegation clash

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has been ruled out of his side’s crucial clash with Sunderland.

Forest are within touching distance of Premier League survival after moving five points clear of the relegation zone last weekend with a 4-1 win against Burnley.

Murillo was subbed off in the first half of the match, and now looks set to miss this evening’s trip to the Stadium of Light.

However, there is some good news for Forest fans, with Vítor Pereira adding that Dan Ndoye is fit enough to play.

"No, he [Murillo] is out," Pereira said. "He has a muscle injury, I don't know. I am not a doctor, I cannot predict [when he will return]. It will be hard tomorrow.

"Dan [Ndoye] will be in the right condition to go to the game, which is good news for us."

Wharton's ready to go

Oliver Glasner has revealed that England midfielder Adam Wharton will be available for Crystal Palace against Liverpool.

Wharton missed his side’s 0-0 draw with West Ham United on Monday after picking up a knock during their UEFA Conference League second leg against Fiorentina.

Glasner says the Eagles midfielder has trained ahead of the trip to Anfield.

"Adam [Wharton] is good," he said. "He is fit and trained yesterday without any issues, so he’ll be available for Liverpool."
