Mohamed Salah urges Liverpool to deliver 'special' farewell for Jordan Henderson - 'He didn't get the send-off he deserved'

While the attention of the Anfield crowd on May 24 will no doubt centre on Salah, as he will bid an emotional farewell after a nine-year spell at the club, he wishes to share the limelight with a returning hero who "didn't get the send-off he deserved".

Jordan Henderson is due to return to Merseyside with Brentford, who could well remain in the picture for European qualification on final day.

The 35-year-old spent 12 years at Liverpool, and was instrumental in helping the club to the 2019/20 Premier League title - the club's first since the reformation of the league in 1992.

Salah, speaking to former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports' The Breakdown, said Henderson deserves recognition from the fanbase, having been unable to be properly celebrated due to his sudden exit for Saudi Arabia in 2023.

"People in the city know how much it meant to Hendo being here, captain of the club, for 12 years, more than me, more than Virg [van Dijk], more than Robbo [Andy Robertson], more than anyone," said Salah.

"He didn't get the send-off or farewell he deserved, because he left immediately, so I don't know how the club is going to manage it.

"I have no plan, and I don't know how the supporters will also manage it, but I really wish they do something special for him, because he's been one of the best players in this club, and without him, and being there in the dressing room without him, we wouldn't have achieved what we achieved.

"So I really hope that the fans will give him a good send-off. I really hope so, I really hope so, because, again, you guys may be not in the dressing room, we don't know much what's going on there.

"But you [Gerrard] are aware of that. You played with him, you know how much he's passionate, and he loves the club, so I really wish the club would do something for him, and the fans also can do something special for him, because this is Liverpool, and we do it this way."

Henderson has been an important member of Keith Andrews' squad this season, and Brentford look well-positioned to secure their highest-ever Premier League finish - currently sitting ninth ahead of welcoming West Ham United to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday. They are just two points off sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

In Salah and left-back Robertson, Liverpool will lose two more players from their era of success with both leaving Anfield this summer.

As such, only three players from Liverpool's starting line-up for their title-clinching 5-3 win over Chelsea in 2020 will be at the club next season, with manager Jurgen Klopp having also moved on.

Salah credited his former team-mates as he looked back on the club's success - particularly Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left his boyhood club to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2025.

"I do miss him, I do miss him," Salah said. "I would text from time to time, and I really wish him the best.

"Yeah, you know, being in a place for 20 years is not easy, and he's still 25 or 26. So he had to go.

"I think people don't know how good Alexander-Arnold is, but I think he gets a lot of credit. But I would say Gini Wijnaldum and Millie [James Milner] and Hendo. These guys, without them, wouldn't win anything. Like how we play in front, without these guys, we would not win anything."
