LEEDS AVOID SCARE TO SWAT ASIDE DERBY
Leeds United overcame a penalty miss and falling behind against Derby County to triumph 3-1 in the Emirates FA Cup and advance to the fourth round.
A desperately dull first half finally sprung into life when Joel Piroe hit the post, moments before the Dutchman slipped Lukas Nmecha through on goal. Jacob Widell Zetterstrom felled Nmecha, handing the visitors a spot-kick that Piroe elected to take, but his effort was saved brilliantly by the Swede who dived low to his right.
And Zetterstrom was central to Derby opening the scoring almost immediately afterwards, when he booted the ball to the lively Corey Blackett-Taylor who surged into the Leeds penalty area before being felled.
As The Rams appealed for a penalty of their own, Brereton Diaz was the calmest man in Pride Park as he slotted his shot past Karl Darlow, with Derby able to hold on fairly easily for the rest of the half.
But Daniel Farke’s team talk had a stirring effect on Leeds, who were a different side in the second half. They dominated possession and were rewarded when Piroe allowed Jaka Bijol’s pass to run to Wilfried Gnonto, who hammered home just four minutes before Zetterstrom could only parry a long-range Piroe effort straight to the feet of Ao Tanaka, who made no mistake.
And Derby couldn’t get anywhere near Leeds for the rest of the game, only recording one shot in the second half, while James Justin added a late third for Leeds to polish the scoreline.

GNONTO: A GOOD REMINDER OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Player of the Match spoke to TNT Sports after Leeds' victory:
"I am really pleased to have progressed, we knew it would be a tough game coming here, but we are happy with the win and I am happy with my performance.
"It was a good reminder of what the Championship is like! It was tough, lots of duels, long balls and header, but we had to dig in.
"It was a good move by the team, I am happy with the finish. We train every day and that is a result of that.
"We had a slow start, but we worked our way into the game, and we knew we would have chances, and we just had to take them, and we did.
"We know the FA Cup is always special, we want to dream and take our chances.

Derby just ran out of quality against their superior opposition but can continue to focus on a successful Championship season.

Leeds WILL be in the fourth round! And for the first time in 93 minutes, Farke finally cracks a smile.
Derby finally committed numbers forwards and were punished for it immediately, the ball is lumped up for Nmecha to chase and he latches onto the ball before finding Justin who's bursting through the centre and finishes sharply.

GOAL!!! DERBY COUNTY 1-2 LEEDS UNITED (TANAKA)
And in the blink of an eye, Leeds lead! Nmecha chases a lost cause and keeps the ball in play, recycling it to Joel Piroe who finds a good shooting lane and forces Zetterstrom into a strong save.
Yet he can't gather the ball and it falls to Tanaka, who deserves a goal and has an easy finish at point-blank range.
