Aston Villa have re-signed Tammy Abraham after his loan spell at Besiktas, moving for the England striker following Donyell Malen’s sale earlier this month. Abraham scored 26 goals in 40 games during Villa’s promotion-winning 2018/19 season and arrives having netted 13 times this term for the Super Lig club. Villa had also been linked with Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Abraham joined Besiktas on loan from Roma last summer and has since met the threshold required for the Turkish club to trigger the obligation to buy in the deal.
However, Villa have moved to sign the 28-year-old, having been keen to strengthen their forward line following Donyell Malen’s sale to Roma earlier in January.
Villa teased the news on X shortly before making the announcement with a post which read: "They say never fall in love with a loan player."
The remark was in reference to the 2018-19 season which the England forward spent on loan at Villa Park, helping the club earn promotion to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2015-16.
His impressive campaign, where he scored 25 goals in the Championship, saw him return to parent club Chelsea and he became a regular in attack under manager Frank Lampard.
Abraham scored 15 goals in 34 appearances as he helped The Blues qualify for the UEFA Champions League in fourth place.
However, he fell down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel, Lampard's replacement, and was left out of the matchday squad for the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City, which Chelsea won 1-0.
That summer, he joined Serie A side Roma as incoming boss Jose Mourinho’s star signing for a reported £34 million. He became an instant fan favourite with 17 league goals in his debut campaign - including two in a 3-0 victory over city rivals, Lazio.
During the 2021/22 season, Abraham scored the winner in the UEFA Conference League semi-final victory over Leicester City to send Roma into the final, where they overcame Feyenoord to claim their first European trophy since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1960/61.

Abraham failed to hit similar heights in his second campaign, with just eight league goals to show for his efforts.
Though Roma reached the UEFA Europa League final that season, it would be a cruel end to the season for the Englishman as he saw his side defeated by Sevilla in the showpiece match before suffering an ACL injury in the final league match against Spezia, which kept him out until the following April.
He spent the following season on loan at AC Milan, where he scored a stoppage-time winner to beat derby rivals Inter in the Supercoppa final and also notched two against parent club Roma to dump them out of the Coppa Italia.
But it was a season of few highs as he returned to the Italian capital at the end of the campaign, before moving to Besiktas on loan.
