The 30-year-old has been widely regarded as one of the best defenders in Serie A for several years, producing five goals in 28 appearances across all competitions this term.
Barcelona will reportedly only be able to complete the deal if they secure a significant fee for France international Jules Kounde.
”Liverpool has contacted those who handle the interests of the Aruban native to confirm that he is still on The Reds' radar but watch out for Barcelona too,” read the article.
”If the Blaugrana were to sell Jules Kounde for a significant fee - difficult, but not impossible.
”Even if it would cost around €60 million (£52m), then Dumfries, as has already been communicated to those in charge, could become a concrete target for the Catalans."

Tare expects Modric to stay

AC Milan’s director of sport Igli Tare expects Luka Modric to sign a new contract with the Serie A giants despite their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The Croatia international’s current deal with Milan is set to expire this summer after a season that saw them miss out on a Champions League place to Como, who finished one point above them in the table.

Eichhorn, who plays in midfield, apparently has a release clause in his contract of at least €10m.
Plettenberg claims the player is planning to leave the German club this summer.
”Liverpool have entered the race very concretely for 16 y/o wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn,” he posted on X.
”Concrete talks have already taken place, as sources from England confirm. Eichhorn is planning to leave Hertha BSC in the summer. Release clause worth around €10-12m (£8.6-£10.3m)."
