Liverpool move ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in Yan Diomande chase, make decision on head coach Arne Slot - Paper Round

Diomande, 19, enjoyed an impressive campaign, scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists in 36 games for the Bundesliga side.

"The Athletic report that Liverpool are now in a strong position to sign Diomande as they search for Mo Salah's successor. Leipzig would demand £87m for his signature, but they hope to keep him for another season after qualifying for the Champions League.

"Should Liverpool decide to act on their interest, Anfield chiefs will open talks with their counterparts at the Red Bull Arena. PSG, however, would need to sell a player in order to buy Diomande and have other options in their search for a wide forward."

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claims under pressure Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is set to remain at Anfield.

The outlet reports that The Reds are close to appointing Slot's former team-mate Etienne Reijnen as a coach, which is an indication Slot will stay at Anfield.

"Liverpool are close to appointing Etienne Reijnen to their coaching team in a move that will remove speculation about Arne Slot’s future," states the outlet.

"Reijnen had been working alongside Robin van Persie at Feyenoord but he left his post last Sunday. Telegraph Sport understands that the 39-year-old has told colleagues he will be taking up an opportunity to join his long-standing ally Slot on Merseyside.

"It was Slot’s intention to bring Reijnen with him to Liverpool in 2024, when he succeeded Jürgen Klopp, but the move collapsed when Reijnen was unable to obtain a work permit and had to stay in the Netherlands.

"Now, though, Reijnen has the necessary qualifications and it is expected that his move will be confirmed shortly after the Premier League season ends. He will join Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, although it remains to be seen whether Giovanni van Bronckhorst will stay at Anfield."

The Times reports that Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak had to persuade Pep Guardiola to stay at the club last year.

It was confirmed on Friday that the 55-year-old was bringing his trophy-laden spell at the club to an end after months of speculation.

"Manchester City have confirmed that Pep Guardiola is leaving the club after a decade in charge — and The Times can reveal the Catalan made the decision to depart a year ago," reads the article.

"It is understood that Guardiola told Khaldoon Al-Mubarak last summer that he wanted to leave after a rare trophyless and miserable campaign, but the City chairman persuaded him to stay for one more year.

"It is understood that Guardiola told the City players he was leaving on Friday morning at the club’s training ground. It was an emotional farewell given that Guardiola has grown close to the players and staff during his ten-year spell at the helm.

"It was originally intended that the announcement would be made on Wednesday morning, but City’s draw against Bournemouth the previous evening — which crowned Arsenal as champions — meant they postponed confirmation until Friday.

"Enzo Maresca, the former Chelsea head coach who previously worked in Guardiola’s backroom team at City, has been lined up to take over."
