Enrique set to turn down Man Utd
Luis Enrique is poised to reject the chance to move to Manchester United this summer.
The Mirror reports that the Paris Saint-Germain head coach is not keen on moving to a club that is not guaranteed to have UEFA Champions League football, and will sign fresh terms with the Ligue 1 giants.
The paper states: "Luis Enrique will snub a move to Manchester United to sign a new deal with Paris Saint Germain. United had made the Spaniard one of their top targets in the club’s search for a permanent manager, amid claims that United representatives had travelled to Paris for talks with the former Barcelona boss.
"But it's understood that he believes taking over at United is not the right project for him. And he has reservations about taking charge of a club which might not be in the Champions League next season.
"The 55-year-old has been in discussions with PSG sporting director Luis Campos over a new contract at the Parc des Princes, that will keep him in the French capital until 2030. Enrique has a strong relationship with Campos, who has also just signed a contract extension."
Goretzka rejected Arsenal
Reports in Germany suggest that Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka rejected the chance to join Arsenal in the winter transfer window.
Instead, the 31-year-old midfielder decided that he would see out the rest of his contract with the Bundesliga side.
The Daily Mail writes: "Arsenal reportedly made a last-gasp swoop for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka at the close of the January transfer window.
"The German giants revealed on Friday last week that Goretzka, 31, would be leaving Bavaria at the end of the season when his contract expires, calling an end to his fruitful eight-year spell at the club.
"Goretzka, who arrived from fellow Bundesliga outfit Schalke in 2018, has been an integral part of Bayern Munich's team over most of the last decade, winning six domestic titles and a Champions League trophy in 2020.
"Keen to bolster Mikel Arteta's options in midfield, Arsenal reportedly tabled a offer at the eleventh hour for Goretzka on deadline day.
"According to German newspaper BILD, the player made a conscious decision not to leave Bayern Munich in the short-term, eager to play out the remainder of his contract at the Allianz Arena before leaving in the summer."
Saudi Pro League hits back at unsettled Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported dissatisfaction at Al Nassr continues after the Saudi Pro League claimed there was no undue advantage given to any club.
The 41-year-old is said to be unhappy with his own side’s transfer activity, leading to speculation he could leave in the summer.
The Athletic reports: "The Saudi Pro League has told Cristiano Ronaldo ‘no individual - however significant - determines decisions beyond their own club’ after his future at Al Nassr has come into focus.
"Ronaldo, 41, is paid more than £175 million a year by Al Nassr, but was left out of the squad for their win over Al Riyadh on Monday night amid a dispute over how the club is being run, and there are also doubts over whether he will play against Al Ittihad on Friday.
"Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) are the majority shareholders at Al Nassr, owning 75 per cent of the club, but they also have the same stakes in Al Hilal, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli.
"And the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player — who had a €50m release clause inserted in the new two-year contract he signed in June — feels let down because he believes Al Nassr’s hierarchy did not suitably strengthen the squad during the January transfer window."
Wissa future uncertain
Yoane Wissa’s position at Newcastle United is far from certain because the forward has struggled to perform since his move from Brentford last summer.
The i Paper thinks that because Newcastle need to sell to buy, Wissa might have to demonstrate his worth to avoid being shopped around.
The paper explains: "Sources tell The i Paper that PSR means Newcastle have to get better at player trading. To bring someone in you need to know what the exit route of others is, so those talking about revamping the striker options in the summer should recognise it would mean one of the three forwards they have leaving.
"Given the money committed to Wissa and Nick Woltemade, surely it won’t be either of them. Not yet, anyway. But it does mean there is pressure on the DR Congo international to show more.
"For Eddie Howe, it is a strange situation. Perhaps unfairly the entire summer’s transfer work has been laid at his door by some critics but those familiar with him say it is ‘unfair and untrue’ that he only wants to sign Premier League-proven players.
"Newcastle are pivoting towards looking at new markets with his support and in the summer the big problem was the number of knockbacks they suffered."
