Manchester City win Elliot Anderson race as Manchester United pull out, Barcelona agree Anthony Gordon fee with Newcastle United - Paper Round

Old Trafford chiefs are unwilling to match the staggering nine-figure asking price for the 23-year-old, who favours a move to the blue side of Manchester.

The Mirror states: ”Manchester United have conceded defeat to bitter rivals City in the race to sign Elliot Anderson. United had targeted the England and Nottingham Forest midfielder as one of their main summer targets. But United bosses are not willing to meet the asking price of around £100m. 

”While United are also of the understanding Anderson would prefer to join City instead of them. It's understood City remain increasingly confident of landing Anderson, despite Pep Guardiola's recent departure. Enzo Maresca is expected to replace Guardiola at the Etihad, and has given his seal of approval to the signing of 23-year-old Anderson.”

Barcelona are poised to complete an ambitious move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, who looks almost certain now to leave St James' Park. 

The Catalan giants are reported to have made a sizeable offer for the England wide man, who was also wanted by Bayern Munich.

The Athletic reports: ”Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

"The two sides have agreed a deal worth €80million (£69.3m; $93.2m) for the winger, with a sell-on clause also included.

"This has now been accepted by Newcastle, with the England international set to make the switch to the Camp Nou.

"Personal terms have also been agreed with the 25-year-old, who had also been subject to interest from German champions Bayern Munich."

Newcastle United and Everton have both entered the running to sign right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from relegated West Ham. 

The Hammers are under financial pressure to generate funds from player sales this summer, sparking a scramble for their top regular starters.

The Sun writes: ”Newcastle and Everton are looking at signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a £10 million deal. The former Manchester United right-back looks set to leave relegated West Ham after two years at the club. 

”Wan-Bissaka, set to feature for DR Congo at the World Cup, joined West Ham from Manchester United in a £15m deal. Yet after relegation was confirmed on Sunday, West Ham are looking to raise over £150million in player sales with a string of stars set to leave. Mateus Fernandes is a Manchester United target. Jarrod Bowen, though, wants to stay.”

Filip Jorgensen has requested to leave Chelsea after just two seasons at Stamford Bridge in search of guaranteed first-team football. 

The Blues have agreed to let the 24-year-old Danish international explore his options, confident that they already have his replacement waiting in the wings.

The Mail explains: ”Chelsea's hectic summer has started with goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen asking the club to let him leave - and the Blues agreeing to listen to offers. Jorgensen, who is 24 years old and keen to become a regular starter at a club, will now be clear to explore his options with his representatives. He signed in 2024 for £20.7million from Villarreal on a seven-year contract. 

”The Denmark international spent much of the last season acting as an understudy to Robert Sanchez, save for a brief spell when former head coach Liam Rosenior decided to try him as his first choice. Chelsea would not necessarily need to sign a replacement for Jorgensen as they already have Mike Penders, the 20-year-old who has been on loan at sister club Strasbourg in France.”
