Manchester United's pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes could be a smokescreen to swoop for another target, writes The Mirror.
Reports suggest The Red Devils are in "advanced talks" to sign Guimaraes, but they have also been strongly linked with Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton.
The outlet writes: "Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks with Bruno Guimaraes for a summer move away from Newcastle. However, the Brazil international could just be a guise for the Red Devils to swoop for Adam Wharton instead.
"One such target is Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton who has also attracted interest from Liverpool. The English midfielder has been a revelation for the Eagles since he signed from Blackburn Rovers in 2024, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield.
"Impressive performances alongside Daichi Kamada and Tyrick Mitchell have caught the eye of both United and close rivals Liverpool. However, Arne Slot's side may see United's interest in Guimaraes as a reason to cool off interest in Wharton for now, allowing United to swoop in."

Real Madrid set 'crazy' price tag on Camavinga
Real Madrid are open to selling Eduardo Camavinga this summer but will not entertain bids below £50 million.
A report in The Sun suggests the midfielder is wanted by clubs in the Premier League despite falling down the pecking order in the Real midfield.
"Real Madrid have reportedly slapped a 'crazy' price tag on Eduardo Camavinga ahead of the summer transfer window," writes the outlet.
"The French midfielder has gained interest from multiple Premier League clubs
"Reports in Spain have claimed that Real are willing to listen to offers for the former Stade Rennais star.
"It is suggested that the 15-time Champions League winners will not consider bids below £50million.
"Real will be under no pressure to sell the star if they change their mind, with his contract not expiring until 2029."

Amorim could replace Mourinho at Benfica
Ruben Amorim could replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica, according to a report in the Express.
Amorim left Benfica's bitter rivals Sporting for Manchester United on November 1, 2024. However, he departed the club after just 14 months, having criticised the club's hierarchy.
Mourinho's Benfica are four points behind Porto in the Primeira Liga table, but pressure could be building on the former Real Madrid coach.
The Express notes: "Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is being linked with a return to the dugout with Sporting's bitter rivals Benfica, should the Portuguese giants opt to part company with Jose Mourinho.
"Reports emerging from Portugal have claimed that Benfica have the 41-year-old on their shortlist.
"ZeroZero have reported that Amorim is a standout candidate to take charge at the Estadio da Luz. The appointment would prove highly controversial in Portugal to say the least, given the intense rivalry between Sporting and Benfica."
"If Benfica go to what I consider Plan B... Benfica have to try Ruben Amorim," journalist Luis Rocha Rodrigues said.
