Manchester United are in ”advanced talks” to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, reports The Sun.
The outlet claims Newcastle’s heavy defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last-16 has ”paved the way” for the Brazilian to join Man Utd.
However, The Red Devils face stiff competition from Real Madrid.
”Old Trafford chiefs are targeting the 28-year-old as a possible replacement for veteran midfielder Casemiro,” reads the article.
”Brazilian Casemiro is said to have earmarked compatriot Guimaraes as his successor in the United engine room.
”It is understood there is a mutual interest in a deal, set to cost around £69million, which should make for smooth sailing on the negotiation front. However, the interest of Real will complicate matters.”
Newcastle could face 'mass exodus'
Newcastle United could face a "mass exodus" should they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.
While Bruno Guimaraes has been strongly linked with a move away, Eddie Howe may also struggle to keep a hold of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento, claims The Sun.
Newcastle are ninth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool.
"A failure to return to Europe’s top table could see Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Tino Livramento move away from St James’ Park," reads the article.
As SunSport exclusively revealed, Michael Carrick’s United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid are interested in £100million-rated midfielder Tonali.
"Club officials claim the Italian, 25, is happy, but his agent has hinted he could look to leave," the report read.
"Gordon and Livramento are also high on Arsenal’s hit list - as revealed by SunSport in recent months.
"The Gunners are leading Liverpool in the ÂŁ75m chase for winger Gordon, but they must see off City to land full-back Livramento, whose deal runs to 2028."
Rashford deal takes twist
Manchester United will reject Barcelona's bid to extend Marcus Rashford's loan deal by another season, according to The Mirror.
Rashford joined the Spanish champions on a season-long loan deal last summer, with an agreement the deal would become permanent for ÂŁ26 million.
However, Barca wish to extend the loan deal for another season, a proposition Man Utd will turn down.
"United will tell the Spanish giants to cough up the agreed ÂŁ26million fee - or send the England star back to Manchester in June," writes The Mirror.
"Rashford has gone on to rediscover his best form and is desperate to pledge his long-term future to Barca. But re-elected Barca president Joan Laporta wants to extend the striker's loan into a second season - to avoid having to meet the asking price until the summer of 2027.
"United bosses have had no recent dialogue with their counterparts in Spain. But it's understood the English giants are not prepared to allow Rashford to remain at the Nou Camp on-loan.
"United would be prepared to take Rashford back - and sell him to the highest bidder ahead of next season.
"Old Trafford chiefs know Rashford's resurrection in Spain has boosted his valuation in the transfer market. And United would be confident of getting closer to ÂŁ50m for the 28-year-old, as well as getting him off the wage bill at the same time."
Man Utd identify Gomes as midfield option
Meanwhile, The Mirror reports that Man Utd see Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes as the solution to boosting their midfield.
Wolves are staring at relegation after a dreadful season, although their recent performances have given the club a much-needed lift.
However, they are set to lose Gomes, who has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
"Joao Gomes is being eyed by Manchester United as Old Trafford bosses plot an overhaul of their midfield this summer," writes The Mirror.
"The Brazilian international, 25, is expected to leave Wolves this summer with Wanderers set to be relegated to the Championship.
"Gomes is keen to further his international credentials by staying in the Premier League.
"Thus, despite signing a new Wolves contract last April, he is almost certain to move on this summer and will be available for transfer if the price is right. If he heads to Old Trafford, he will reunite with close pal Matheus Cunha, who made the move from Wolves to United last summer.
"United are in the market for two midfielders, with Casemiro leaving when his contract expires, and Manuel Ugarte set to be sold, having struggled to make an impact since his move from Paris Saint-Germain."
