Newcastle have rejected two informal proposals submitted through intermediaries and maintain that no direct contact has taken place.
Despite initial frustration regarding Arsenal's approach, expectations are growing that an agreement will be reached following the departure of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.
The Mirror reports: ”Arsenal are working to close a deal for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes in the coming days in a transfer expected to reach at least £80 million, potentially up to £85m with add-ons.
"The Gunners have seen two proposals, tabled via intermediaries, rejected by their Premier League counterparts, who have persistently denied any club-to-club contact to date.
"Sources at St James' Park have intimated frustration about Arsenal's left-field strategy, however, there is now a growing expectation that a deal will be struck following the bombshell departure of boss Eddie Howe.
"Arsenal's most recent offer was understood to be a fixed fee of £70m plus around £5m in contingents, which Newcastle did not deem acceptable.”
Bournemouth agree deal for former Chelsea target
Bournemouth are set to complete the signing of 22-year-old defender Antonio Silva from Benfica in a deal worth up to £25.7 million.
The transaction includes an initial fee of £21.4m alongside £4.3m in potential add-ons, with Silva travelling to undergo a medical on the south coast.
The agreement represents a significant reduction from the £87m release clause Benfica previously demanded during interest from Chelsea in 2024.
The Sun reports: ”Antonio Silva has agreed a cut price deal with Bournemouth just hours after captaining boyhood club Benfica in a Europa League qualifier.
”The 22-year-old Portuguese international is en-route for a medical on the South Coast this weekend after negotiating a deal worth £25.7 million.
”An initial agreement of £21.4 million plus £4.3 million in add-ons is a mere fraction of what Benfica once demanded from Prem giants for the centre-back’s signature.
”Chelsea had a bid of £52 million plus Albanian striker Armando Broja snubbed back in 2024, with Benfica insisting the Blues meet a mammoth £87 million release clause.”
Everton explore move for Celtic full-back Johnston
Everton have made contact with Celtic regarding the availability of 27-year-old Canadian right-back Alistair Johnston.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed that Everton manager David Moyes initiated contact regarding Johnston as Everton look to reinforce their right-back position following Seamus Coleman's exit.
A formal offer has not yet been submitted, with Everton continuing to evaluate alternative targets including Strasbourg's Guela Doue.
The Athletic reports: ”Everton have contacted Celtic over the availability of Canada international right-back Alistair Johnston, according to the Scottish Premiership club’s manager, Martin O’Neill.
”The departure of long-term captain and stalwart Seamus Coleman, plus uncertainty over the future of Scotland’s Nathan Patterson, means the Merseyside club are looking to sign a new right-back this summer. They have considered a number of options, including Strasbourg’s Guela Doue, but the search has now led to them approaching Celtic over Johnston, 27.
”In a press conference ahead of the Scottish champions’ league opener against Dundee on Monday, O’Neill confirmed Everton manager David Moyes had been in touch ”last week” over a potential move for the Canadian.
”Sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity to protect relationships, insist a firm bid is yet to materialise, with Everton still assessing other options in the right-back position.”
Middlesbrough target loan for Spurs prospect Moore
Middlesbrough are interested in securing a loan agreement for Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The 18-year-old is currently participating in Tottenham's pre-season tour in Australia under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Moore prefers a potential move to a club competing in one of Europe's top five leagues following a successful loan spell at Rangers last season.
Standard Sport reports: ”Middlesbrough are among a host of clubs interested in pursuing a loan move for Tottenham winger Mikey Moore.
"Standard Sport understands, though, that while the Championship side wants to bring Moore to the Riverside Stadium, the 18-year-old is believed to be holding out for a move to a club in Europe’s top five leagues.
"The young winger has long been considered one of the club’s brightest academy prospects and impressed on loan at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers last season.”
