Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon want to quit Newcastle United, Real Madrid keen on Jose Mourinho return - Paper Round

More worrying for the club is that Anthony Gordon, Joe Willock, Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali all want out of St James’ Park, according to The Telegraph.

The paper writes: ”Newcastle have an ageing squad, with old stalwarts like Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Jacob Murphy and Nick Pope reaching the end of their shelf-life. 

”They also have a number of players who are keen to leave in the summer, like Anthony Gordon, Joe Willock, Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali. Not all of them will go, but there is going to be a huge turnover of players. The rebuild will be difficult, but they have to get it right. 

”The idea is to sign younger players with potential, moving away from the tried-and-tested Premier League approach favoured by Howe last year.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is still considering the appointment of their former head coach Jose Mourinho.

Perez is not keen on retaining interim head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, and is now looking for a more experienced candidate.

The Athletic reports: ”Speaking in recent weeks, sources familiar with how coaching decisions are made at the Bernabeu speculated that Alvaro Arbeloa, who replaced Alonso in January, might remain for next season despite his poor record, given he was viewed as a ‘good club man’.

”However, Perez has made it clear that he was not happy with how Arbeloa was doing the job, and some close to the club hierarchy have even tried to distance the president from the decision to appoint the rookie coach, who now looks set to be moved on.

”This is an especially delicate moment for Perez. His long-held dream of a European Super League is over. Legal and technical challenges have caused severe problems for the expensive Bernabeu stadium rebuild. His battles against football authorities in Spain, including referees, have been set back by a new strong partnership between La Liga and the Spanish FA. Barcelona have the upper hand in their increasingly bitter rivalry and could well celebrate another La Liga title win at the Camp Nou in a few weeks.”

Jack Grealish is planning to leave Manchester City even if he does not join Everton permanently in the summer.

The winger had been left on the sidelines under Pep Guardiola, and if he stays at the Etihad, then Grealish wants to go elsewhere.

The Mirror states: ”Jack Grealish has no intention of going back to Manchester City this summer if Pep Guardiola continues as manager.

”Grealish has spent this season on loan with Everton, after finding himself frozen out at the Etihad. Guardiola axed the attacking midfielder towards the end of last season, and refused to include him in his squad for the Club World Cup in America.

”He is hoping to secure a permanent move to Everton, provided a suitable fee can be reached between both clubs. City value him in the region of £50m, but might have to accept less, with Grealish about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal.

”If a deal cannot be agreed, Grealish would rather seek another loan move than go back to Manchester, before becoming a free agent in the summer of 2027.”

Shakhtar Donetsk are concerned that they will lose out on more than £25 million if Mykhailo Mudryk does not return to action for Chelsea.

The winger is currently out after a positive test for a banned substance and, if he does not play for his current club again, Shakhtar will miss out on some bonuses agreed in the deal.

The Evening Standard explains: ”Shakhtar Donetsk will lose out on €30 million (£25.9m) worth of bonuses if Mykhailo Mudryk does not play again for Chelsea, according to the club’s chief executive, Sergei Palkin.

”Mudryk has not stepped up for Chelsea since November 2024, when he was provisionally suspended by the Football Association (FA) for testing positive for a banned substance.

”Chelsea signed Mudryk from Shakhtar in January 2023 for a fee worth up to £89m, including add-ons. The 25-year-old signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract.

”The winger is continuing to train, having recently used the artificial pitch at Uxbridge FC, a non-league club at step four.”
