Tottenham Hotspur want Marcus Rashford, but unwilling to meet Manchester United's asking price for England forward - Paper Round

Rashford and United have agreed upon a £40 million release clause, and Spurs’ interest could force the forward to rethink his current preference when it comes to a transfer away from Old Trafford.

The i Paper writes: ”At this stage, Rashford’s preference would be to move abroad again – preferably back to Barcelona, or to Bayern Munich, who are also monitoring the 28-year-old’s progress – or return to United and resurrect his boyhood dreams. Moving to another Premier League club is currently not on his radar.

”However, it is understood that United’s position on the player, who they would prefer to move on to save on his astronomical wages, will force Rashford to reconsider his stance.

”United sources are adamant the club will not engage with Barcelona over another loan deal, after the Catalan giants elected not to activate the £26m option to make his loan stay in Barcelona a permanent one.

”Had it not been for Rashford’s wages, clubs would likely be queuing up for a player who was reborn at Barca last season. Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is understood to be a huge fan and will push the club’s hierarchy to agree some form of deal.”

Manchester United are prepared to accept offers below the amount they paid for midfielder Manuel Ugarte in 2024, The Sun reports.

The Uruguayan joined for an initial £42.3m two years ago, with that deal potentially rising to £50.75m with add-ons, and United are struggling to find suitors for the player.

The Sun writes: ”Senior United sources believe the biggest stumbling block to shifting Ugarte is his £120,000 weekly salary.

”United are not hawking Ugarte around as they do not want to drive down his resale value and accept there is a reasonable chance he will still be at the club after the transfer window closes.

”If United manage to get Ugarte off the books, they would look to sign a third midfielder, having already agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson and lined up Mateus Fernandes of West Ham.

”Ugarte is represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which counts Fernandes among its clients.”

Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is close to becoming the new head coach of Oxford United, the Telegraph reports.

The club were relegated from the Championship last season and are hopeful of bringing in Ramsey amid interest from Wales.

The Telegraph adds: ”There are doubts over the future of Craig Bellamy, the current national team manager, after Burnley approached the Football Association of Wales in their hunt to replace Scott Parker, who left the club after their relegation from the Premier League.

”Discussions are ongoing over Bellamy, who was formerly Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Turf Moor.

”Ramsey, however, is believed to want to forge a career in club management, after a brief spell in charge of Cardiff City, and is set to succeed Matt Bloomfield, who was sacked on Saturday following the club’s relegation from the Championship. An announcement on who will be the new head coach is expected ahead of the Oxford players returning for pre-season training.”
