RELENTLESS BLUES HAMMER ROMA FOR SIX AS CHELSEA MOVE UP TO THIRD
Chelsea cruised to victory against Roma in the UEFA Women’s Champions League to move up to third in the league phase with a 6-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
After seeing their 34-game unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League come to a shock end against Everton, Chelsea returned to winning ways with a ruthless performance against the Serie A Femminile leaders.
Despite a bright and even start to the game, it was the hosts who took the lead inside 13 minutes when Valentina Bergamaschi headed Sandy Baltimore’s inviting cross into her own net.
Wieke Kaptein would double Chelsea’s lead after 26 minutes when Johanna Rytting Kaneryd headed a beautiful long ball from Keira Walsh into the path of the Dutch international to tap home.
Sam Kerr had a chance to grab Chelsea’s third shortly after when she headed over Catarina Macario’s cross, while Kaptein had a chance to notch her second of the match when Millie Bright and Kerr combined before Kaptein looped her shot over the crossbar.

While Roma continued to look for a way back into the game, it would be Rytting Kaneryd who would kill the game off before half-time when Veerle Buurman found Niamh Charles down the left wing, whose ball arrived at the feet of the Sweden international, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Chelsea would claim their fourth thanks to their substitute Sjoeke Nusken, who won a penalty after colliding with Marta Pandini in the penalty box, with the referee overturning her decision of a foul on the Roma player after VAR intervention.
The German managed to squeeze her spot-kick into the bottom left corner, despite Olivie Lukasova going the correct way.
Kerr would again come close to getting onto the scoresheet when Nusken squared the ball to the Blues forward, who was denied at the hands of Lukasova, but their fifth would come from selfless play from Guro Reiten, who laid the ball on a plate for Maika Hamano to slot home.
Lucy Bronze scored her first goal of the season to seal all three points and a dominant 6-0 win with a cross-turned-shot into the left corner to catch Lukasova off-guard, whilst Nusken was denied her second goal in the dying minutes.
Chelsea moved up to third in the league phase and into the automatic qualifiers as they retain their unbeaten run in Europe, whilst Barcelona top the standings after a commanding 3-1 victory over Benfica.
Elsewhere in the Women’s Champions League, a late Atletico Madrid equaliser forced Bayern Munich to settle for a 2-2 draw, while Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of OL Lyonnes, who moved up to second.
Sonia Bompastor's side face Brighton and Hove Albion next in the WSL on Sunday, December 14, as they look to return to winning ways in the league.

And what a way to score their sixth!
Bronze bypasses a tackle to cut into the box on the right hand side and her cross towards the far post ends up looping into the goal and Chelsea have their sixth.

GOAL! CHELSEA 5-0 ROMA (HAMANO 76')
We looked to entering the subdued part of the game with little opportunities and a lot of loose balls but just as I say that, Maika Hamano puts Chelsea 5-0 ahead against the Serie A leaders.
It's a lovely ball over the top to Guro Reiten, who runs into the box and selflessly picks out Maika Hamano, who slots home into the bottom right corner.
