Jordan Henderson not ruling out England return at World Cup after freak wrist injury - 'Will cross that bridge when we come to it'

England’s Jordan Henderson was coy on whether his wrist injury would keep him out of the remainder of the World Cup. The 36-year-old landed awkwardly, injuring his wrist, after falling over advertising hoardings during the post-match celebrations in the 3-2 win over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.

The Brentford midfielder left the pitch on a stretcher and required oxygen, with head coach Thomas Tuchel confirming he had been taken to hospital.
Henderson had been an unused substitute, although he did pick up a booking on the sidelines after a confrontation towards the end of the match.
Henderson was taken to a hospital in Mexico City, accompanied by an England support‑staff member, where he had surgery.
Asked for an update on his injury, Henderson told ITV: ”It’s alright. Not my finest hour.
”It has been a tough couple of days, but as soon as I came back to the camp to see the lads, we have a great medical team, I'm thankful for that.
”The doctors and surgeons in Kansas were amazing as well, so very grateful for that."
Speaking prior to kick-off of the quarter-final against Norway, Henderson said: ”Just delighted to be part of the squad again today.”
Asked if he could feature in the semi-final or final, Henderson added: ”We will cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Henderson has played just six minutes at the tournament, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 Group L win over Panama to earn his 90th cap. In doing so, Henderson became the first England men's player to play at four World Cups.

Speaking on Henderson's injury, Tuchel told the BBC: ”According to him he will be available for the match, more or less. He still tries to convince me that he will be involved in this tournament.
”I still need some convincing that this is possible, but he is without doubt, saying that he will play his role here.
”He will stay [with the squad] for sure. That is clear. But he had a long surgery. Everything went well.
”We had to leave him there in Mexico. He had a night full of pain in the hospital. He had another night at the airport. He couldn’t fly out because of weather conditions, so it was just torture for him.
”Two days and nights of pain. I cannot praise him enough for how he handled it and how he is now.”
