Former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate to become the next Netherlands boss following his departure from Anfield. Slot has been out of work since Liverpool dismissed him in May and appointed Andoni Iraola following an underwhelming campaign.

According to Sky Germany, the Dutch Football Association has added the 47-year-old to its shortlist as it searches for Ronald Koeman's successor after the Oranje's disappointing exit to Morocco in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
Despite Slot's Liverpool exit, the former Feyenoord boss remains highly regarded, having won the Premier League title the previous season and secured UEFA Champions League qualification in his final year on Merseyside.
Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that talks have already taken place between Slot and the Dutch Football Association, although no appointment is imminent and several candidates remain under consideration.
The report goes on to claim that Louis van Gaal is currently viewed as one of the main alternatives. The 74-year-old has already enjoyed three spells in charge of the national team, including leading the Netherlands to a third-place finish at the 2014 World Cup.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie are also among the names linked with the vacancy. Van Nistelrooy is part of the Netherlands coaching staff, while Van Persie became a free agent following his departure from Feyenoord earlier this summer following 16 months in charge.
The Dutch Football Association is expected to assess its options before making a final decision, with the successful candidate tasked with rebuilding the national team before the 2028 European Championship.
Juventus submit contract offer to Kessie
Juventus have reportedly made a contract offer to free agent midfielder Franck Kessie as they step up their pursuit of the former AC Milan midfielder.
According to Italian publication Tuttosport, the Bianconeri are offering the Ivory Coast international a three-year deal worth €5 million (£4.3m) net per season following the expiration of his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
Kessie has already fuelled speculation over a move to Turin after speaking to reporters while on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup.
"Juventus? Yes, if we talk about it, I have seen. They are a great coup," he said. "In shape, at the World Cup and above all free agent, it's hard to ask for more.

"That's why so many want me, they're right. My agent is working, the calls are many and, I repeat, it's normal: I too would take myself in these physical and economic conditions."
While the proposed salary would make Kessie one of Juventus' highest earners, it remains well below the reported €14 million (£12m) net per season he earned in Saudi Arabia.

The 29-year-old has long been admired by the Turin club, having previously been linked with a move before leaving Barcelona for Al-Ahli in 2023.
Tuttosport's latest update comes amid growing expectations that Kessie could return to Serie A. SportMediaset has also credited Atalanta with an interest in bringing their former midfielder back to Bergamo, with the added incentive of UEFA Champions League football, but Juventus appear to have stolen a march on their domestic rivals by making the first concrete offer.

Newcastle have reportedly identified Germany international and Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller as their preferred target to strengthen their midfield as they prepare for a significant summer rebuild.
The Magpies' interest comes amid major expected changes in the squad, with Sandro Tonali having completed a £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Bild, Stiller has been earmarked as the leading candidate to replace the Italian in the heart of Eddie Howe's midfield.

The 25-year-old has established himself as a key player for Stuttgart, making 34 Bundesliga appearances during the 2025/26 season, scoring twice and providing five assists as the club secured a fourth-place finish in Germany’s top flight.
His form also earned international recognition after he was included in Germany’s World Cup squad, where he made one appearance off the bench in the group-stage defeat to Ecuador.
Newcastle’s pursuit comes amid wider squad reshaping, with significant funds from potential player sales, including Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona.
However, Stuttgart remain in a strong negotiating position with Stiller still under contract for two more years, while interest from other European clubs is also likely to emerge.

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a sensational €220 million (£188m) offer to sign Bayern Munich forward Michael Olise, in what would rank among the most expensive transfers in football history.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the proposed package is understood to include €190 million (£162m) in fixed payments and a further €30 million (£26m) in performance-related bonuses.
The Spanish giants view Olise as a key attacking target, with his profile seen as ideal for their long-term project at the Bernabeu.

Bayern are in no rush to sell and consider the 24-year-old a central figure in their long-term plans. The German champions are expected to demand a significant fee should they be forced to consider negotiations, with Olise still under contract and highly valued internally.
Despite Bayern’s stance, Madrid believe a decisive move may be necessary to avoid his price rising further, especially if his World Cup form continues to attract interest from Europe’s elite clubs.
The report reads: "The German club consider the Frenchman a strategic piece. His performances have been spectacular, and his room for growth is still immense. Therefore, even though Madrid's offer may seem irresistible, in Munich, they believe they can extract more money if the pressure increases."
