Marc Marquez to 'go from strength to strength' after ‘untouchable’ weekend in Aragon - Michael Laverty

Michael Laverty has backed Gresini Racing MotoGP's Marc Marquez to go "from strength to strength" following an "untouchable weekend" at the Grand Prix in Aragon. The 31-year-old beat Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin by five seconds on Sunday, to claim his first victory in almost three years. "He’s had that perfect weekend which we haven’t seen since 2019," Laverty told TNT Sports.

Marc Marquez roared to victory at the Grand Prix Aragon on Sunday in what has been described as an “untouchable” weekend for the Spaniard.
Michael Laverty was full of admiration for the eight-time world champion, who edged Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin by five seconds to claim his first victory in almost three years.
“[He’s been] untouchable all weekend,” TNT Sports expert Laverty said following the race.
“From the first practice to the first laps of this race track, you knew he felt at one with the bike. The low grip has always worked for him.
“If we turn up in Argentina back in the Honda days he just made it look easy, and this weekend, he’s had that perfect weekend which we haven’t seen since 2019.
“I think now he’s going to go from strength to strength. Maybe he doesn’t have the material to battle for the title race, but he can drink it in and enjoy it in Aragon.”

Since his last victory in 2021, Marquez has suffered with injuries and underwent surgery on his right arm ahead of the 2024 season.
Although Laverty is aware the 31-year-old might never be the same following his injuries, the former racer credited the Gresini Racing rider for his remarkable rise to the top.
“He’ll never be back to the Marc Marquez who didn’t have to think about the arm injury or the shoulder injury, or the potential risk of another head impact,” Laverty added. “The human aspect, the sporting aspect, the perseverance.

“There’s so much to the story of what he’s been through. I think you can see the respect between the comments from Pecco [Francesco Bagnaia] this weekend, everyone out there, they all appreciate Marc for the eight-time World Champion that he is.
“The determination, the steeliness, the fact that he’s back on top. They’re worried about him, but they also have to give him full credit for what he’s delivered this weekend in some style.”
