The 2026 World Snooker Championship takes place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, with all the action live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
Defending champion Zhao Xintong started his title defence with victory over qualifier Liam Highfield and he went on to beat Ding Junhui in round two, but he fell to Shaun Murphy at the quarter-final stage.
Mark Allen came through his opener as he battled back to beat Zhang Anda before he got the better of 2024 champion Kyren Wilson and then took out Barry Hawkins to reach the semi-finals.
Allen was beaten in a dramatic final-frame decider by Wu Yize, after the Northern Irishman missed a chance to win when failing to pot a black.
Ronnie O'Sullivan was targeting a record eighth world title at the age of 50, but was beaten in a deciding frame by fellow 'Class of 92' member John Higgins.
Higgins went on to beat Neil Robertson in the quarter-finals to keep his hopes of a fifth Crucible crown on track, but he fell to Murphy in the semi-finals.
World No. 1 Judd Trump also came unstuck in a deciding frame against Hossein Vafaei.
Wu booked his spot in the final after producing an inspired fightback to stun Mark Allen in a deciding frame.
The tournament - staged at the Crucible Theatre since 1977 - marks its 50th edition at the iconic venue.
The final went the distance, with Wu beating Murphy 18-17 to earn ÂŁ500,000 and the coveted trophy.
