Former Liverpool and Belgium striker Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing the curtain down on a career defined by iconic goals and major honours.

Having fulfilled the ambitions he set for himself as a young player, Origi departs the game as a UEFA Champions League winner, Premier League champion and one of Liverpool's most celebrated cult heroes.
Arguably the most memorable moment of the striker's career came in May 2019 during the second leg of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
Trailing 3-0 from their visit to Camp Nou a week earlier, Origi's early strike set Jurgen Klopp's side on their way to a remarkable victory which would lead to them winning a sixth European Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.
Origi started and finished that famous Anfield night, scoring the fourth after a brace in between from Georginio Wijnaldum - becoming an instant cult figure for those on The Kop.
Not satisfied, however, with having played a major role in that semi-final success, Origi then sealed the victory over Spurs in the final with a well-taken finish.
The former Belgium international wrote an open letter to his followers for the Players' Tribune, in which he reflected on those few weeks.
"It's pure chaos," he recalled. "Liverpool went into it down 3-0. We had injuries. And Klopp put me in.

"You visualise it, you finish. You visualise it, you finish. You visualise it, you finish. The rest is history - our history. By the end of that year, I was a Champions League winner. And I'm the one that scored one of the two goals."
Origi also outlined the reasons for hanging up his boots were due to feeling completely fulfilled by his football career, having achieved the dreams he set for himself as a child, including success at the World Cup and with Liverpool.
Guided by his Christian faith, Origi believes God is leading him into a new chapter, and he leaves the game with gratitude and no regrets.
His post-football plans focus on studying and working in fashion, expanding his football agency DLF, mentoring young players, and pursuing philanthropic projects that allow him to make a positive impact beyond the sport.

Origi continued: "When you can look back and savour all the sweet moments with only gratitude and zero regret, that's when you know it's time to say goodbye.
"In football, I feel fulfilled, like my journey has been complete. All I can say is, thank you, God. Thank you, football.

"I look back and just shake my head in awe at everything I have accomplished in this game that I love.
"The little boy, from Belgium and Kenya, achieved all his dreams. You did it - you won the Champions League! You won the Premier League!"
The Belgian forward made 175 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 41 goals and cementing his place in the club's modern history.
During his time at Anfield, Origi also helped The Reds win the FA Cup and League Cup during the 2021/22 season - both against Chelsea - delivering an unforgettable backheel goal in a win over Preston.
Origi scored six times in the Merseyside derby, most memorably in bizarre circumstances against Everton at Anfield during the 2018/19 season when nodding in from close range in stoppage time after an error from Jordan Pickford.
Beyond Liverpool, Origi represented Lille, Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Nottingham Forest, enjoying a career that spanned some of Europe's most prominent leagues.
On the international stage, he earned 32 caps for Belgium and scored three goals, including a memorable strike in a 1-0 victory over Russia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup that announced his arrival on the global stage.
