Arne Slot says he has ”every reason to believe” he will continue as Liverpool head coach next season and has been involved with talks about potential new signings.

Slot’s position has come under increasing pressure as Liverpool have fallen back after their Premier League title victory a year ago. They have suffered 18 defeats in all competitions this season, which is the most since 2009/10, and are 20 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Asked about speculation surrounding his future, Slot said: "I don't think I am deciding that myself alone. I have every reason to believe that I am the Liverpool manager next season. First of all, I am contracted to this club, and second of all from all the talks we are having."

Slot enjoyed a dream debut season in charge of Liverpool after joining from Feyenoord.

But the mood has turned sour this season and there were boos at Anfield last weekend as Liverpool drew with Chelsea.

"I think the world has gone to [a place] where if a manager or a club doesn't have the best season, there is always a debate,” Slot said.

”It is not only at Liverpool. It is all around the world. That is the new reality in football. It is not up to me to judge the people who judge me. They have every right to have their opinion.

"In this modern time, everyone can share their opinion. This happened 10-15 years ago, but then you did it in the pub and not everyone heard it.

"[Now] it is more out in the open. I would have been surprised if that was different here at Liverpool."

Slot added that he has been involved in planning for next season.

"We know where we go on tour. Plans have been made and talks have been ongoing with the club for new players and I am involved in that."

Liverpool finish their season with a trip to Aston Villa on Friday evening followed by a home match against Brentford.

Slot says Mohamed Salah will be available for a ”few minutes” against Villa after recovering from injury.

The Egypt star is leaving Liverpool in the summer and there have been reports that goalkeeper Alisson could also depart.

Slot declined to comment on Alisson’s future, saying: ”Boring, same old answer. I am reading the same things as you are probably reading but it is not what I would talk about here.

”I think our fans need to support Alisson, no matter if it is his last game or if it was his first game - that is what they have always done. If he is in goal tomorrow or next week, our fans will support him. The same goes for next season."
