Everton 1-2 Bournemouth - Premier League result as Rayan and Amine Adli inspire Cherries comeback against 10-man Toffees

Bournemouth’s exciting new £24.7 million signing Rayan scored again as the Cherries completed an impressive turnaround to win 2-1 away at Everton.

Andoni Iraola’s side hardly had a sniff in the first period as Everton looked on track to end a two-month wait for a home win, but a passionate half-time team talk inspired a spirited comeback at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees took the lead through an Iliman Ndiaye penalty 42 minutes in, awarded after Rayan had tripped Jarrad Branthwaite. It was a clumsy challenge from Rayan as he got on the wrong side of Branthwaite, who was dribbling away from goal.

But Rayan was determined to put things right, and he did just that, heading home from an Adrien Truffert cross to level up the scoring just after the hour mark. The Brazilian made an excellent run, and it was a bullet header to beat Jordan Pickford.

Bournemouth then stunned the home crowd as Amine Adli scored a quickfire second. It was a header once more as Alex Scott’s deep free-kick was squared skillfully by James Hill and Adli nodded into an open net.

It then went from bad to worse for Everton as James O’Brien was sent off for fouling Adli as the last man. Referee Andy Madley made no hesitation to reach for his pocket, and it was probably the right call, as the retreating Toffees defenders weren’t even close.

Everton piled on the pressure in the final 20 minutes or so as they pushed for an equaliser. But Bournemouth, led by the imperious James Hill, were able to hold on for all three points. The Cherries shift up to ninth in the Premier League, level on points with tonight’s opponents.

But there's no luck for Pickford, whose attempt to control the ball on his chest is flawed.

Meanwhile, Rayan heads off to a standing ovation for Bournemouth and is replaced by Adam Smith.

Can Everton find an equaliser?

Everton are getting closer here as they win a host of corners, piling on the pressure for the Bournemouth defenders.

That latest delivery from Garner wasn't any good, though, as it arrowed nowhere near any Everton shirts and was cleared away with ease.

Iraola is going mental down on the touchline as Everton dominate in the closing exchanges, forcing the Cherries into some desperate defending.

But, as it stands, Bournemouth are standing firm and holding on to their delicate advantage.

James Hill has been imperious tonight.

The Bournemouth defender has made 10 clearances with his boot and six with his head, as well as three interceptions, two tackles and one block.

Hill even notched the assist for Adli's goal.

That's how you deliver from a set-piece. Excellent work from the Cherries to nod themselves into the lead.

It was vengeance for Rayan, as he made amends for his earlier error to head Bournemouth level.

The Everton striker had to do better with that as he headed into the ground and straight at the Bournemouth 'keeper.

They may be a man down, but that doesn't mean Everton aren't gunning to get back level.

Bournemouth are backs to the wall at the moment as the Toffees push on.

Robbie Savage, live on TNT Sports commentary, believes O'Brien deserved to see red for that challenge on Adli.

"It's a difficult one. Is it denying a clear goalscoring opportunity? Has the referee got it right. I think he has," Savage said.

There were suspicions of offside for Bournemouth's second goal as Enes Unal strayed into an offside position and jumped to head Alex Scott's cross, before Hill squared the ball to Adli.

In the end, both the referee and VAR decided Unal wasn't interfering with play, but it was a close call.

Adli sprints onto a through ball and O'Brien takes him out as the last man.

Could Everton's recovering defenders have got there? Possibly. But that was a blatant foul, and O'Brien was the last man at the time.
