Jude Bellingham reveals how ‘King’ Harry Kane led England celebrations after 'unbelievable' World Cup win over Mexico - ‘He ain't getting in trouble’

Jude Bellingham was England's hero as they produced a remarkable display of resilience to beat Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca and advance to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, the midfielder netting twice late in the first half to lay the foundations for a memorable victory.

Bellingham's brace - which took his goal tally for the tournament to four - appeared to put England in control, but co-hosts Mexico pulled a goal back almost instantly through Julian Quinones.

A red card for Jarell Quansah just after the break put the Three Lions in a precarious position, and after both sides scored penalties, it was a nervy final 30 minutes in Mexico City.

But England defended excellently, repeatedly rebuffing wave after wave of Mexican attacks.

There were scenes of jubilation at full-time, as the England players celebrated a seismic victory.

Though undoubtedly a team effort, Bellingham and Harry Kane - who scored from the spot to go one goal behind leading scorers Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the World Cup Golden Boot race - were influential once again.

And Bellingham revealed after the game that he only felt comfortable letting loose after seeing captain Kane celebrating gleefully.

The Real Madrid midfielder jumped over the advertising hoardings to join his team-mates in front of the travelling England fans.

"I was going to, and then I thought, 'maybe not'," he said in an interview on England's official social media accounts. "I don't know if you can get booked for that, and, obviously, I'm already on a booking, and trying to save as much trouble this tournament.

"I saw Harry go, and then I was like, 'if the king's gonna do it, then I'm going after [him]!'. He ain't getting in trouble.

"An unbelievable moment. Those kind of images live with you for years, so I'm very grateful to be part of it."

Asked where the victory ranked in the list of his career achievements, Bellingham said: "For England, it's probably right at the top.

"Pleasure to be a part of this kind of night. The whole team...so proud of everyone. It's an unbelievable achievement."

Kane also gave his thoughts immediately after the game, though his voice was hoarse and amusingly high-pitched after the celebrations.

He later added that the result will go down as "one of England’s greatest-ever wins".

”Considering the circumstances, the knockout [stages] of the World Cup, and just the way we’ve done it," he said.

”We’re very proud to represent England and wear this badge and you can only prove that by doing what we’ve done today.

”So, it definitely gives us more belief. I’m sure it’ll give the fans more belief, knowing we can come through difficult games like that.

”So, for now, we just enjoy the celebrations and get ready for the next one.”

England will now face Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami on Saturday, after Erling Haaland's brace gave the Scandinavians a 2-1 win over five-time world champions Brazil.

If they overcome Norway, Thomas Tuchel's side would face one of Argentina, Egypt, Colombia or Switzerland in a semi-final in Atlanta on July 15.
