The 32-year-old arrives at San Siro as a serial winner, having collected a host of major honours during his decade with City, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League.
Stones made 295 competitive appearances for City after joining from Everton in a £47.5 million deal in 2016, becoming a key figure for one of the most dominant teams in European football.
Inter confirmed the transfer on their official website, highlighting the defender’s composure in possession, tactical intelligence and ability to help build play from the back as qualities that have defined his career at the highest level.
"A new environment, a new league and a new challenge, backed by all the experience he has gained throughout his career," Inter announced following confirmation of Stones' signing.
"For the first time, he will no longer wear just blue, but black and blue. From the green fields of Barnsley to the San Siro pitch, after making history in Manchester, John Stones is ready for his next chapter at Inter."
Under Pep Guardiola, Stones developed into one of Europe’s most technically accomplished centre-backs, combining defensive awareness with the ability to operate confidently in possession.
His time at City also produced several memorable moments, including a decisive goal-line clearance against Liverpool in 2019, which played a crucial role in the club’s league title success that season.
The England defender's influence has also extended to the international stage. Stones has earned 94 caps for his country and featured in several major tournaments, helping England reach the European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024, as well as two FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
He was part of the team who reached the last four in North America this summer, where they were beaten by Argentina.
According to Sky in Italy, Inter moved quickly to secure Stones after positive talks with his representatives.

Chelsea and Juventus were said to have been among the clubs interested in the free agent, but the Nerazzurri ultimately won the race for his signature.
Inter's decision to bring in Stones reflects their desire to strengthen their defensive options with experience and leadership.

The club reportedly remain interested in Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero, but Stones was considered the priority target.
The move gives Stones the opportunity to begin a new chapter after injury problems limited his involvement during his final seasons at City.
Champions Inter will begin the defence of their league title at home to Monza on August 22.
