Dean Henderson showed why he is a fan favourite at Crystal Palace as he paused his post-match interview with TNT Sports following their UEFA Conference League quarter-final win over Fiorentina to start a chant with the travelling support.

Palace were beaten 2-1 in Florence on Thursday night, but it was more than enough to see them through to the semi-finals following their 3-0 victory over the Italian outfit at Selhurst Park last week.

As Henderson was speaking to TNT Sports’ Matt Smith pitchside at Stadio Artemio Franchi following the aggregate win, the Palace supporters, still in full voice inside the stadium, requested a song from their goalkeeper.

The Englishman said "one sec” to Smith, before shushing the Palace supporters and shouting "zamina-mina” at the top of his voice.

This set the Palace fans off singing their chant to the tune of Shakira’s Waka-Waka, which Henderson became famous for leading during the celebrations after last season’s FA Cup triumph. Smith then commented that the goalkeeper was "conducting the orchestra".

In slightly X-rated terms, the chant jokes about Palace finishing 12th every year in the Premier League, but that they do not care after winning the Cup.

It was the victory over Manchester City at Wembley in May that qualified Palace for their first ever European campaign, and they are now just three matches away from getting their hands on the trophy.

The south London side, who beat Larnaca in the round of 16, will now face Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals.

Victory over two legs against the Ukrainian team would set up a final against either Rayo Vallecano or Strasbourg.

As Henderson resumed his chat with Smith on Thursday night, he was asked if Palace could go all the way in Europe’s third-tier competition.

”Of course,” he replied. ”That’s what the aim is. The togetherness in this group - business end of the season, we come together.”

When asked how it feels to reach the semi-finals, Henderson said: ”This is unbelievable for this football club.

”It’s sensational when you think the FA Cup last year, and then to keep going, creating a new chapter in the book, it’s phenomenal.

”[The fans] have stuck by us in the difficult times this season, and hopefully we can go and deliver something really special.

”It was a tough game, it was very tough. You don't really know how it will go. 3-0 is a dangerous scoreline, but we’ve managed to get through, so who cares?

”Obviously, it was our day today, we’ve just got to keep going, build momentum.”

Palace will be on the road for the first leg of their semi-final tie against Shakhtar on April 30, before the second leg at Selhurst Park a week later, with both games live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
