Nottingham Forest will play their first match in European competition for 29 years when they travel to Spain to face Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League.

The two-time former European champions finished seventh last season to initially qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

However, they were instead promoted to the Europa League in place of FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, who were punished for breaching multi-club ownership rules.

Making further headlines over the summer, the club surprisingly fired manager Nuno Espirito Santo three games into the season, replacing him with Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian was moved on from his post at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season after a poor league campaign, despite actually winning the Europa League with the north London club.

Forest will be hoping Spurs’ loss will be their gain, and Postecoglou can repeat the feat with his new club.

They face a Real Betis side with their own European ambitions and looking to make up for their defeat in the Conference League final last season to another Premier League club in Chelsea.

Real Betis v Nottingham Forest will take place on Wednesday, September 24, at the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Sevilla. 

Kick off is at 8pm UK time, with live coverage on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and discovery+ starting from 7pm.
