Elliot Anderson officially signs for Manchester City from Nottingham Forest in £116 million deal - 'One of the biggest clubs in the world'

Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest on a five-year deal for a reported £116 million. The midfielder is the club's second signing of the summer transfer window.

Anderson was part of England’s World Cup squad who reached the semi-finals of the tournament before being knocked out by two late Argentina goals in a heartbreaking defeat.

The move had long been agreed but the transfer was officially confirmed on Thursday after the midfielder returned to England after his time in the tournament in North America came to an end.

The 23-year-old told club media: "City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the squad they have is amazing - so strong in every position.

"As soon as I knew they wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen.

"As a footballer, you want to test yourself at the highest level. Being at City means I have that opportunity.

"As soon as I arrive in Manchester after a break, I will be doing everything I can to establish myself in the City team.

"It’s a club built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game. That is exciting for any footballer.

"I am so happy to have been given this opportunity, and I am determined to repay the faith City have shown in me."

Anderson had been a transfer target for City’s crosstown rivals, Manchester United, but he has now joined the Etihad to work with the club’s new head coach, former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

The former Newcastle United man played all eight of England’s World Cup matches for Thomas Tuchel and was one of the most consistent performers.

He joined Forest in 2024 from Newcastle, playing 92 games for his last club and scoring six goals.

City have also signed Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, beating Arsenal to the signing of the teenage midfielder.

There have been a number of players linked with an exit in the summer, with James Trafford rumoured to be close to a move to fellow Premier League side Leeds United.

Midfielder Rodri is linked with a return to Spain to join Real Madrid, while players such as Savinho, Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips are all expected to leave. Anderson's England team-mate, John Stones, exited City in the summer at the end of his contract.
